I do want to get a rug! I would like an abstract design or brushstroke design with teal/blue, grey and maybe a pop of gold. I don’t want to get too crazy with introducing too many colors. My main colors are blue/teal, grey, black and hints of gold. I like my little coffee table :)

Go for color....not gray

So this is what happens when people pick random colors ... they start doing more random things to try and make the first random thing make sense. Do not start trying to spread teal around to make sense of that chair. The best thing you can do now is get an area rug that very subtly touches on that teal color, and then continue decorating within the normal color scheme you have. Which means I would get a throw and pillows that stay in the neutral gray family, and I would get a pillow for that teal chair in the neutral colors with just a hint of the teal.

Kelly, if this is all the seating you're using here, then this is the rug size you need. You could go a little larger, but no smaller. You'll have to measure to see what size this rug is.

The seating arrangement would benefit from a rug large enough to hold the sofa and chair plus a corner table where the sofa and chair meet. Place a somewhat larger coffee table so there is enough room for people to move and sit or stand and step out of the seating area. Your coffee table seems a bit small for the seating area and is placed too close to the seating for easy movement around it.

I also like that Surya cosmo rug but too expensive! I think I will get a grey throw for couch and a grey/neutral pillow for chair. A rug to link all the colors together. I can try moving my seating a little further back. Thank you!!

The rug photos seems ethereal water, sky, stone -- contrasting items imo would help sharpen the look of simple / straight lines of furniture -- or room might go blah.

Where do you get that app to try items in your room? I don't know about using the gold though. It's just a light accent color. I think I will stick with a grey throw.

Hi Kelly, a large area rug will do wonders, large is better as it will make the room look larger and pull it all together. Choose a rug you absolutely love, then incorporate a throw, your gray should do nicely, now choose your rug that has all your colors in it. Great start!! Hope this helps, good luck, best, Debra

Very conservative look. I would only caution you to be careful with your blues so you don't end up having it clash with the chair.

Like the suggestion of groveraxle -- if you're getting a rug, use a color from a rug for your throw.

If your table is a nesting tables and you have both, you could use the larger one for left of the sofa between sofa and chair and the smaller one on the other side of the sofa.

Alternately, if you have a square table (preferably with more rounded than sharp corners, that would work better for where the chair and sofa form an angle -- and you could use your smaller nesting table as a plant stand.

Add a rug and another color for throw

The first rug in Groveraxel’s series of 4 is stunning! Yes to going big - you will not regret it. Yes to a more substantial coffee table. The Noguchi would be fab and both will ground the space. I notice a tendency toward spindly legs in your space that you might want to balance out.

Why are the sofa and chair so close together? Their arms overlap. MOve them apart. Chair goes back 4 or 5 inches. It doesn't look like there's room for knees without hitting coffee table.

First, you need to get a generously sized rug. You need tables and lamps. The throw is very far down the list of needs.

This is the rug I got, really like it. Thinking about a different chair, would you go for the same color, or how would a lighter blue work?

The rug looks darker in picture but is a nice mix of teal, light blue, grey, and a hint of gold/yellow. I will try to post a better picture.

You might consider a sofa table behind your sofa for plants.

Do raise or hem the drapes up off the floor by a quarter inch. That drag the floor sloppy look that gets in the way of the vac needs to go away.

I'd say push your sofa back against the wall behind. I know the current norm is to have furniture floating but that needs a bigger space to work.

The new rug looks great and the chair looks fine with it. No reason to get a newer one. I don't see much gold/yellow in your rug but it might be a nice accent color to pick up for the throw.

We only see a photo, but with loveseat and chair, not sure your table is 'off' - grover said that about size of rug, that the scale might be just fine with entire size of seating.... is that what she said?
