I didn't want to put this in the main posting, but I'm just about numb with what has happened in my family.......3 deaths in less than a week. They were all expected, just not all at the same time. Two on the same day.....both using my nephew's funeral home. We're/I'm ok but could use a little extra prayer and hugs. thank you.

As far a goals, I'm trying to get started on this memorial quilt. Our long-time church music director and good friend passed away two years ago and his husband asked me a few weeks ago to make a quilt from his T shirts and dress shirts. I've got some ideas kicking around; just need to translate them into a real design.

No goals for Sept., except two sets of blocks to put together for tops. That should be easy enough.

We had some excitement this week. DH totalled his car. He hit someone who blew through a stop sign and ended up passenger side down in a soybean field. He was held in place by his seatbelt until rescued by police. He spent the day in ER but he has not a scratch on him. Sore muscles though. Seatbelts and airbags, greatest inventions ever!!

Folks - I'm not liking all this bad news at all. We got the news that DH has 2 issues with his heart last week. New medicine to try, hoping it will help. We all need prayers and hugs. I don't have a plan at all for this month, my mind hasn't been on it with all these tests and worries. Maybe - hopefully - I'll be able to settle down and put my mind on something pleasant before the month is out.

I have no quilting related goals this month, but just wanted to send prayers and hugs to you all. Take care, everyone!

Awee Sharon, lots of hugs, so sorry. It's been that kind of summer as I too lost three as well, of which only one was very dear and close. it's so tough at times.

No real hard set goals for Sept., just hope to wrap up a few items before we leave on October first for 17 days...wohoo!

I finished my friend's comfort quilt today and worked on a backing for one of the African tops. Moussa will be at my house on Sept 26 and I hope to have at least two of the UFO's finished for him to take back. The pillowcases from August will have to wait until I finished those quilts.

I’m so sorry for all the sorrows you are going though, Sharon, Rita and Valarie. I’m so glad your DH is safe and sound, Theresa.

I’ve started a quilt for an October wedding, so that’s a goal for this month. I’d also like to keep going on my Strip Twist scrappy quilt. I found some half price fabric the other day that is perfect for another traditional quilt from Paula Barnes’ book Tributes and Treasures, so I may start playing around with that too.

Sending thoughts to all of you who have suffered losing someone recently. So hard to deal with that. Also, Theresa, so glad your husband is okay.

I watched our local team play football today and really got in the mood to complete my UFO with that theme. We'll see if the motivation continues. I also want to try to make some doll clothes having my granddaughters in mind. Christmas ahead and no telling if there is a learning curve on this or I can just make them with no problem. (Knowing me, there will be a learning curve.)

Hello, y'all! I have no goals/sewing plans for September, as life is busy with PT & Doctor's appointments, along with regular life busyness. DH is recovering well from surgery, with only a few rough days so far. I am truly sorry to hear of your losses and wrecks and health scares, friends. Praying Romans 5:3-5 over all of you & yours. Hang in there!

Jeanne - what kind of doll clothes are you sewing? When my daughter was younger, I sewed many American Girl (18") doll outfits, and have created several simple patterns available for free at Craftsy. I can send you a link, if you'd like.

My only quilty plans this month are to do as much as possible at quilt retreat and bind a quilt that has been staring at me for several months. :) I am bringing strips and strings to quilt retreat. I am still on my goal of taming them. I hope to get several baby quilts out of them for the Baby James Memorial Project.

I don't have any major quilting goals for September. I'm going to finish my "happy days" quilt this weekend. I've hated every minute of quilting this top. I've had to make myself do it, knowing that it still won't be a great quilt technically. It will be pretty, though. A non-quilter would not notice those "poufy" squares.

I'm looking forward to starting a new project - any new project.

Tanzania seems to be the place to be. DH just returned last Sunday from two weeks in Tanzania. He was there with a group from Rotary, opening a new school and inspecting other projects they have supported. So he has had a memorable August, a trip and a crash. No more please!

Larri, I would say I'm still in the practice phase on doll clothes. They seem so tiny after years of quilting. I will be making clothes for American Girl dolls, Barbie dolls, and Ginny (1950s doll about 8 inches tall). If anything turns out good enough to photograph I'll share a picture. I got one dress almost completed for Ginny and then decided the back wasn't going to match like it should and I pulled it apart. It sure looked cute from the front, but the back wasn't going to work.

Prayers for all with heavy hearts and issues of concern within your families. Sewing goals are somewhat scattered as it's been a good while since I've done any sewing. A new grandbaby quilt and some holiday projects are on my "to do" list so we'll see what happens.

My goal for September is to just get through it. Have enjoyed being with family even after receiving more bad news. No sewing but maybe a big utility quilt repair is in my future.........maybe next week when everyone is at work/school. I bought some FQ yesterday and thought I'd just raw edge sew hearts or whatever over the places...seems to be the easiest I can think of for hand sewing. It has been used, that's for sure.....and that's what I want.

I hope everyone's lives have settled down a bit and things are looking a bit better. The link didn't work for me, Sharon. I'm sorry you received more bad news. I find as we age, this happens more often. We just got back from urgent care, due to severe back pains for my husband. Found out he has arthritis bad in his lower spine. He had no pain up until five days ago, so I'm assuming once we get over this he will be doing much better. I think he aggravated the arthritis by carrying some heavy objects. I told him no more carrying and moving heavy things. We have to admit we are aging.

I finished three quilts for Africa and gave them to Moussa last Wednesday. I'll post pics later.

Where did Sept. go?? That was the fastest month in history!

l did get one set of blocks together but got sidetracked by those crayon blocks, so the second set can be Oct. goals.

And we did get a new car. I don't know if anyone else has this add-on to their car insurance premiums but we had something called 'waiver of depreciation'. And since the totalled car was less than two years old, the insurance paid for the new car. Well worth that extra premium!

i was just remarking to my children that we have had car and house insurance for 64 years and we made our first claims on both and exactly one year apart. What are the chances??

Theresa, congrats on the new car! I just heard about that insurance coverage in a news story recently. Apparently most insurance companies offer it, but people don't know about it so they buy very expensive coverage through the car dealer.

I'm making slow progress on the memorial quilt. I "deboned" two shirts Bonnie Hunter-style over the weekend. You can get a lot of fabric out of a man's shirt! I'm piecing blocks from the shirts to make the top larger, then I plan to use the other dress shirts to piece the back. I haven't thought too much about the backing, but I think I'll cut the shirts into the largest pieces I can and figure out where to go from there.
