How do you decorate with dark colors without going overboard?

My husband and I are planning to build a house sometime next year and we're looking at appliances and finishes that we like. We seem to like Rustic/Craftsman type styles (though it's really hard to narrow down a specific style because we like aspects of several different styles), fixtures with the oil-rubbed bronze look, and light to dark neutral colors (brown, grey, black). So how do you balance it when you don't particularly like "bright" colors (yellows, oranges, reds, not overly found of white)?

We really seem to like dark colors and fixtures, so I'm worried that we will end up with a black and grey house.

For example the Kitchen: Black Stainless appliances, medium to dark grey-ish (maybe some brown mixed in?) cabinets, and black countertops (thinking soapstone look). Probably a black sink.

Another example: I didn't know tubs and toilets came in black. I do now. We kind of like them, but I don't feel like they really match the style we're going for.

Picture is of the flooring color we're thinking about, so it would be one of the few things that wouldn't be black or grey lol.
