How aggravating is it to you that someone revives a ancient Dilemma?

Here we are in 2018, and someone decides to recommend a solution to a Dilemma posted from 2013 through 2017. So then Houzz pops it to the top of the queue and few other people chime in before they notice the original post date. Does this bother you as much as it does me? I'm not talking about long running discussions. They can be interesting, but I like to spend time to help get an answer and when I realize - hey that wasn't Sept 20, 2018 it was Sept 20, 2015. It is usually too late. I've wasted my time. So on a scale of 1 to 3 - where 1 is "doesn't bother me, I like it", 2 "I don't care" , 3 "yes, it is so annoying"

Houzz has been glitchy -- frequently getting two page headings and two comment boxes.

Someone reviving an old thread is not nearly as annoying as having someone too lazy to look at the dates whine about it.

" Houzz has been so glitchy lately"

"Houzz has been glitchy -- frequently getting two page headings and two comment boxes."

And this bothers me more than anything any poster does. Because even when it is pointed out, the replies from Houzz come down to "it must be your device, contact your service provider." Yeah, pretty sure Koodo is not responsible for the fact that Houzz (and only Houzz, none of my other social media) is acting up.

Ha! I think I'm a "1" for reasons stated above.

Artistsheronva although I found your post interesting I didn't "like" it, just to tweak you a bit... ;) I find it interesting that you get bugged about "likes." I wonder how generational that is? I peg you as under 30? I notice (but don't count) "likes" and especially like when people get my jokes, but I don't have the inverse experience of being irritated at non-likes. My hypothesis is that generations brought up in the social media era are more concerned about "like" etiquette?

@suedonim75, I think "dinning" is the misspell I've noticed most often here.

I plead guilty for not paying attention to dates on posts. I'm better now!

    OMG...that crazy stone fireplace thread!!!

That's really funny. My 15 year old thinks it's rude to look at something and not /like/ it. I always tell her that these sites should change the Like button into an I Saw This button...

Other than some who make you feel like an idiot. I don’t respond just to annoy, but I don’t usually check the dates when I decide to reply. I just finished figure I’ve something to say.

lindsey,,i've posted on another post about my trials w/notifying Houzz support and their crappy site. after 5 emails, they told me, clear my cache of cookies, change my browser, and after advising them it still doesn't work, attaching photos of the double headlines, posts from other people and their complaints, and every other glitch I could remember, their 5th and final answer to me was , "we are unable to produce the issues here. please check your internet connection,,,blah blah," and listed all the steps on how to do so... tried to replied back and they blocked my email stating,

    Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Houzz! We are unable to respond to emails sent directly to this address.

I mean, wth? an hour prior they responded to it. I don't know if it was just for me, or everyone. they prob got sick of me telling them "the problem is not with my computer!"

try sending a complaint to houzz/support and see what you get.

So as for annoying, yes old threads are, i've learned to just scroll by. if someone wants to give paint color advice from June 15, 2011, knock yourself out. The few times I've said, "this is an old post. I'm sure they've finished". someone says, "well maybe it will help someone else reading it". ok. whatever.

as for this site and glitches, I'll give it 10! so friggen annoying. I contacted HQ today and spoke to 2 diff people. supposedly the IT engineers are working on it. I asked her, 'then why doesn't support just say that?" she said, well, they're in a different area/building and really don't know what's going on w/the engineers. Huh?? apparently their scope of support stops shy of tech stuff.

@Beth after giving me the same rigmarole they gave you, they told me it was my service provider. Then sent me a survey: How well did we do? You got one star my friends, because you replied within one day.

But they didn't give me the opportunity to comment on why they only got one star, so I guess customer support isn't super important to them.

Hopefully they figure it out, I like the site but I don't have time to fight with it.

Definitely a "1" for me. I have learned a lot from so-called 'old' threads. It seems that if an answer or opinion had value to the OP, those who took the time to contribute would like it when someone else is helped by their contribution rather than be annoyed. I do note the date on some topics, and only open those in the current year, or perhaps 2016 forward, but for other topics, some responses and help are, well, timeless. And appreciated.

greenfish, thanks for the compliment. I'm glad to be coming across as still young, when I'm in my 40s. ;)

I'm not talking about fishing for likes.

Of course, I appreciate a like or thank you, but my main goal is to help others find a solution.

It's common courtesy to say thank you in real life, so it's common courtesy to hit a like or thank you button. It's nice & polite.

Taking the time to acknowledge others who took the time to post a good idea inspires others to keep coming back. It can also just add a smile :)

There's a lot of great people on here with helpful, useful ideas & solutions on here that deserve a simple tap of like & thank you button on their post.

If I hit like on your post, I meant it. That's my way of saying, " I agree & great idea"

It's also useful to the OP to know which idea is more liked over another, if they are trying to make a decision on their project.

    Positivity is inspirational.

Oh my gosh, the multi thousands threads! They open to the first post on the app on my iPad, even when I’ve thrown in a comment. I’ll never know how things turned out! It always goes back to the first post. Maybe threads should be limited to 500, and then just start a new thread to continue.

The multi thousand threads asking for advice about their cambria counters, white shaker cabinets and grey floors are really the most annoying thing right now. FFS, do a search, you will find eleventy-hundred posts.

Artistsharonva, I agree with you up to a point. I can only “thank” someone if I’m on my computer not if I’m on my iPad and I assume that the same is true for others, so I would never take offence if I wasn’t thanked. Also, sometimes I find I “liked” a post when I was really just scrolling through and reading so i don’t trust the number of likes either.

It happens rarely and the posts are not nearly as annoying as those with 500+ comments which only serve as a personal chit chat site between online friends. Everyone else has to scroll past their nonsense each time we refresh Design Delimmas. Those posts should be eliminated by Houzz.

The MOST annoying is the op who never returns to the post. .......

Like she was snatched , or her phone lost.

Second most annoying? The "barker" ! She tears up / has a hissy at all the answers that weren't the answer she was seeking. Which was confirmation of a bad idea.

Third most? The 6000 post. lol and 4000 are bad solutions, usually . :)

Lol Jan. I kind of like it when the OP blows up. Not the ones who really have a right to blow up (some really obnoxios comments on here), but like you said, the ones with 500 80s ceramic "collectibles" asking how to "update" their room and lose their minds when people gently suggest they declutter. Or the lady who had the bar none ugliest (including spoffy) fireplace I have ever seen, wanted ideas to freshen it up and when someone called it frankenstein it turned out her husband built it. I go back to read it sometimes for giggles because when these folks lose it they LOSE IT. she told a whole story about how a wealthy doctor and his wife came to town and theirs was the ONLY house the doctor's wife (who by nature of her status as a doctor's wife we were meant to assume had impeccable taste) but since it wasn't for sale bought a "million dollar" house elsewhere. It may not be my best quality but I sure do get a little giggle at those.

Not sure what the beef is with long threads-I pass them by if I'm not in from the beginning, and if I am I just skip to the most recent comments.

I LOVED the idea above about "after" pics being able to be posted at the top of the thread with the original post. Maybe you can do it by editing the original post?

    last modified: 8 years ago

3--especially for the "me too" posts that add nothing.

My greatest annoyance is that they drive current dilemmas off the front page and thus don't give new posts a good chance to be answered.

And it's a universal rule across the Web that you don't resurrect old posts. Got a real question? Start your own thread!

    Houzz should lock old posts.

And I second Jan's thoughts about threads that go on for 4000 or 6000 posts. This isn't Facebook, people! Sad lonely people who have no friends should not be bumping new posts off the front page. Take it to Facebook.

Maybe I'm vain, but I'd never post a picture where my trash was overflowing, my counters loaded with dirty dishes, toys everywhere, etc. Half the posts I want to say, "why do you care about paint colors when you can't even clean your effing house".

-It doesn't bother me if it's an obscure or code related question. Then people might be researching for an answer. ( ie. fuse box locations, old walls without studs).
-It bothers me a lot when it's a common design related question and it's like talking to a person who is no longer in the room.
-Maybe Houzz should lock the design related threads but leave plumbing/electrical/construction ones open?

I haven't been on here in a several years and just came back this week. I do try to look at the date when I post something and if it's old, I just assume it's been resolved. I also don't always get notified someone answered my question. I now see I have 5 responses and I had no idea. (It didn't show up in the bell) What I find weird is some posts will get 100 replies while there are over 19,000 unanswered posts.
