They have to work with the other elements; what counters are you planning?

Backsplashes are the last thing you choose after all the other elements are chosen and ideally installed. For me that color looks more for a bathroom than a kitchen but without any more info hard to tell. i would probably choose something more neutral and add that colr with accessories so when you get tired of the color you just change less expensive elements.

I would caution against accent tiles, borders, and mosaics for the reason Patricia indicates above, but something in a color with an interesting pattern can be easily accented too. We have bright orange stools from Ikea right now. But later I could change those to a pretty gold and cream, update my hardware and completely change the look.

I like the mint green tile very much.

The large size is great, not bathroom-ish at all.

The color is not bathroom-ish at all either.

Shades of green are after all, the color of nature, very restful and go perfectly with food.

What's more, a slightly darker light green shade was extremely popular in kitchenware called Jadeite made from the 1940's - 1970's, and it is a very popular collectible again now.

So when you want to look for some accessories for your kitchen, you can pick up some pieces of that.

Or go back even further for green Depression glass or green Vaseline glass.

Green is very much a kitchen color.

You can avoid a bathroom look with kitchenware as I already mentioned, and also with things like brightly colored dishtowels, darker counters such as a soapstone or soapstone look, natural materials such a large attractive cutting board on the counter, a large attractive basket with fruit, etc.

Another thought-

Why not buy several tiles and some backer board and try out different colors of grout to see how you like them. You might prefer tinted grout, and you don't know until you try it, and see how it looks in your kitchen.

If you think you might change the spectra of your light bulbs, this is the time to do it, before you decide on the tile color and the grout color.

loobab thanks for posting about jadeite. It's really cool and I may try and hunt down some accessories for my dining room to pull out the mint.

If you want a particular backsplash, you are smart to make the choice early in the process. Before you lock yourself into nothing but plain white or cream with other choices. I see that all the time here. There’s nothing wrong with plain white or cream, but it’s always a shame to have waited too long to make your choice and not be able to get what you really want.

Heck yes, epicality, go with the mint tiles if you like them. It's a lovely color. I would be warned, though, that there are a lot of articles out there about how mint tile is going to be the Next Big Thing, so be sure you love it enough to still like it after it's become a cliche.

Sure! Vaseline glass is cool too, but I read something about it having uranium in it. I have to read more carefully about it before I recommend it for food ware (as opposed to a vase.) We don't want to glow in the dark!

I think those are lovely tiles, and I would have no problem building other choices around them. Total bland neutrality is much overrated in my opinion. Makes you want to put on totally beige clothes and fade into beige background - with some soft muzak playing to spice things up.

Remember those accent tiles with fruits in them or flowers or birds? I saw several kitchens like that when we were house hunting. It's not what I would choose today, but I'll bet the family that chose them way back when enjoyed them very much for years. Do something that makes you smile.

I love that color tile. It evokes a nostalgic vintage feel, imho. My first house, mid-50's rancher, had mint green tile countertops and backsplash in the kitchen. I wouldn't hesitate to use that in my own kitchen, but I'm not afraid of color. :)

Just be sure the scale of the tiles is right for the size of the kitchen and backsplash area..your sample pic shows very big tiles if your splash area is small...

I personally like the look of the kitchen below. But my wife thinks it is too blend. So we were going to add the hex back splash to add some color. There are some other colors for this tile as well. We are also considering the sky blue. Perhaps we should use a light shade of colored subway styled retangular tiles instead?

Counter top color ...

As Patricia indicates, there is so much variation in the color of the finished products onsite you are really best to wait until cabinets and counters are installed so you can see samples in your space with your lighting. That counter looks distinctly off-white to me. Will that be paired with pure white cabinets?

I agree waiting is good..also that color is good...but I would get a little braver...your colors are barely distinguishable....some color on the walls may be good as well...my least favorite is subway tile...it is so boring and over used...the backsplash ...done right...should add a little splash of personality to the kitchen...

I love those tiles for a kitchen. Assuming that kitchen photo is your inspiration, i would do pure white cabinets with a pure white countertop -- either quartz or corian. A white like the above that is pure but not blueish and harsh. I would not do any variation or pattern in the countertop at all. Let the backsplash be the star. On the blue versus green, i think that entirely depends on what the rest of your house theme. In our house, we have acquired a distinct blue bent over the years, and every time we add things, it fits within in a blue color scheme. The green tile would not work in my house unless i basically started from scratch with my furniture. I'm not saying all my furniture is blue - just that the pops of color we have are in the blue/pink/grey tones, and not the green/yellow direction.

I think the green tiles are smashing - but I also eschewed safe white subway tiles for my current remodel.

In terms of counter and backsplash, it is something of a chicken and egg decision. I chose my kitchen backsplash tiles before I chose my counter although I didn't purchase them. I considered various counters including quartz, marble, granite, soapstone as well as porcelain such as Neolith and manmade materials that replicated marble and soapstone. If I had fallen in love with a really "wild" counter material, I would have then changed the tile choice but ultimately I chose a relatively quiet granite (Black Galaxy) and so my initial tile choice which had a lot of movement worked well in the overall design scheme.

I think you can go with a light blue or a light green, whatever you like.

The light green is agreeable enough that even if your living room furniture is in the blue family, the light green will still go with that.

I would choose the royal blue...

Just to show that we all have different taste...and please don't be "safe". Life is too short.

I love your inspiration photo. A soft green tile will look great. What are your floors? The counters are white? Just want to confirm that. And cabinets are they white too? And maybe the bright tile would look good if that is what your wife really likes. I like your beautiful piece of art to the left of the first photo. I think something bright might go with that photo.

i would also wait until your cabs, floor & counters are installed and the room painted...

then bring home samples and decide. you cannot do everything at once so no reason not to wait. or use your counters as your b/s if that works for you.

You may want to look at a new tile from DAL tile - retrospace collection... it is a bit of a twist on the hex pattern
