Either will likely work in that combination and aesthetic. Architectural bronze is a bit more time tested with regards to the styling of it, but black is all the rage of late.

Dark bronze is a tad softer looking. Black is awfully stark. Seems like the bronze melds with your inspiration pictures.

I would go with the black, but then, I do have mine painted black, along with the trim. Do you have bronze any where else in your house? I think you need to pick the one that overall goes with what you have outside your house and also in the interior of your house.

I think a lot depends on what colors you like. If most of your decor tends to be more on the brown, cream side compared to more white, black and gray then the bronze is abetter choice . I persoanlly would do black since I am not a lover of anything even remotely beige.

I don't have Anderson but went with dark bronze. My brick has a similar dark brown in it, entry door is bronze with a full panel of leaded glass, and exterior is beige. The interior will be mostly an off-white, SW Westhighland White. My flooring is tile with striations of dark brown. Bronze window frames made the most sense in context and, I think, looks great.

Think about how bronze or black will look with your other finishes.

Thanks, all! We’re totally gutting our house so it’s basically a new build. We have wood elements in a number of places - floors, kitchen island and bar (rest of cabinets are white), reclaimed wood mantel, and wood beams over living room and dining (which are vaulted). Kitchen and dining open to each other and dining and living open to each other, forming an L. Well
R doing gray and white tile in the bathrooms. Plumbing is brushed nickel and hardware and lights likely brushed brass. Definitely like more grey to taupe tones and white over cream and beige for the interior. So maybe black is our answer. We can let the warmth come from all the wood and avoid having the windows compete.

I think the Bronze fits the Craftsman style.

I have been seeing a lot of newer, modern homes with black exterior.

Black. It will help woods inside stand out and be better than brown i.e. bronze outside. With the colors you mention black would be my choice. Later on if you move to more beige interiors black is neutral. Just a couple black accessories will tie them into interior decor nicely.

I think the choice of black v. bronze depends on where you live. In the East Coast, you see a lot of black framed windows and people love them. In the West Coast, we never see black framed windows unless they are custom made steel. Black painted windows appear rather 'cartoonish' to West coast taste. Texas, AZ and NM and California coloring and styles are comparable. Not sure what is typical in the North or Midwest. I would go with whatever you normally see in your geographical area and not what the current trend is.

We are building a modern farmhouse that will be painted white and have a metal roof. I have the same question about bronze verses black. I was thinking about going w/ a dark bronze window and metal roof and have fixtures in the house be dark bronze. I had dark bronze in our old home and I never grew tired of the way it looked. I just worry that it may look like I tried and missed? We are in TX.

I'd love to see photos as I'm also trying to decide between Pella brown and black! My planned color scheme seems very similar to yours!

May I also ask you what is the white paint color you have in the exterior photo? Looking to replicate this look!

Funny, I'm faced with the same dilemma. I just got off the Tel with the Andersen Window consultant and I think I'm driving him crazy. I'm leaning more towards the bronze. Does anyone on this thread have pics you can share?

Recently, I have seen dark gray rather than black and I liked it. Might consider that. I wouldn’t do bronze. Yesterday.

@Flo Mangan, thanks for the feedback. I actually wanted dark gray because my shingles are gray and thought it would be a good combo. Unfortunately, the gray color (Terratone) Andersen has is light. It goes great with brick which I also have on half of the exterior of my house, but I think it would add to the color palette of the interior of the house, as opposed to giving the frames the nice "pop" a darker color would. I definitely do not want the black though, which I think it looks better on houses with tall ceilings, etc.

The "dark bronze" is not like the metal we associate the color with. It's more like a couple shades lighter than the black. Would love to see sample pics if you have of the gray (from Andersen) you are referring to and also the dark bronze.

I understand. With gray roof black would be a good neutral. I think that was my original thought way back. I saw a home in a very high-end neighborhood recently with the gray. It was really pretty. Black has been popular here too. If I am over in that neighborhood I will get some photos. If you go with dark bronze do roof to coordinate or it won’t work.

Glad to stumble upon this discussion. I'm about to build a house and am considering Jeld Wen's chestnut bronze color for my windows, which include both aluminum clad wood and vinyl. I'm going with a traditional red brick for the front and a mix of the brick and lap siding on the sides and back. If anyone has used bronze with red brick please let me know. I'm considering black as well - its between those two colors. Thanks!

I finally decided on the black Andersen casement window for my home, which probably won’t be installed until March due to production delays. I originally went with the bronze but the more pics of both, bronze and black color windows I looked at, the more convinced i became of going with the black since it is a neutral. The black also looks really great against the brick. can’t wait for their arrival.

Muntins. Not nit picking but you will sound more informed at the window showroom when you call things by their proper names.

I know you made your decision already, but for others reading this, I can’t stress how important it is to look at the colors provided by the company you choose. I had planned to go with bronze windows, but the bronze color of the Kolbe windows I bought was really a rusty brown and not a charcoal color. I then changed to black because theirs was a very soft, not harsh, black.

Just ordered the Anderson 100s in dark bronze for exterior but white interior. Was thinking the white interior would make it easier to go with anything and seem more natural… has anyone done this? Should I have just kept both interior and exterior dark bronze? Thanks!

I ordered soft black fiberglass/Glastron exterior windows and wood interiors painted white. I love them I have friends that have bronze or black exteriors with white interiors and love them. But you need to look at the product you bought, as they are not all the same.

Just watched a interior design video! Saying browns are going to be everywhere in decor. Brown everything coming 2023 and beyond. Not sure the black windows will go as well with brown. I think Bronze is better for now.

I’ve got Anderson windows, bronze outside, white painted wood inside: they look beautiful. It all depends on what look you want / what would work best for your house. I did white inside, because all my trim is sleek and white, and stained wood or bronze would have broken up the overall look I was going for.
