It is unlikely to kill the bindweed. PM tends to be much more of a cosmetic issue than a pathogen that causes serious damage. And you run the risk of the spores spreading to more desirable plants as well.

Agree. Hoping that powdery mildew will help control bindweed is wishful thinking. I saw bindweed amongst someone's raspberries earlier this year and while the bindweed had a lot of PM it did not look like it was slowing down in growth at all.

Seems like powdery mildew was pervasive this year. I'm not sure why. Lot of plants effected this year.

I believe powdery mildew is fairly specific to each plant species. I wasn't really hoping the mildew will control the bindweed problem here. The neighbor behind and on one side have LOTS of bindweed. It seemed to me that the powdery mildew was at least slowing it down a bit at least for that segment of the weed above ground.
