Used annie sloan chalk paint to paint the hardwood floors upstairs. We need to add another coat though and then we will seal it. Also found a great deal on a sofa from ReStore! Will post more pictures soon!

Have to admit using maps as wallcovering is inventive but I think you can do better, LOL!

I have to ask...are they AAA maps? You know, free with membership?

The pocket doors are very pretty. Do you think the rest of your wood work under the paint matches?

I think you will live to regret having done that. Good luck trying to unpaint it when you do.

@Fori I think they are a AAA map of Maryland, I found my home town on it LOL. We checked and all the original woodwork is still intact under the paint. I'm going to try and remove it :)

You are keeping us in suspense....what type of house is it? How old? Where are all the photos? :)

So question, in the kitchen underneath the map wall paper is some weird 1950s(?) wall vinyl paneling , it has plastic strips connecting them. I don’t want to take them down right now (I will eventually when we completely gut the kitchen a few years down the road). I want to install something over it and I was thinking plywood. Has anyone else encountered this Kind of plastic wall panels? I’m including some pictures (I’ll try to get some more photos later).

Have you considered maps?

Seriously, take photos of what you need to stick wall material to, and what is already there. This kitchen is intriguing.

Are you going to paint a kitchen facades?

If it is marlite, a coat of bonding primer, and then regular paint will look nice and it stands up very well. I have done that in a couple of previous bathrooms, at another house.

@DavidR thanks for the information ! It is truly helpful and clears up a lot for me. And thank you for the apology. I should have explained that we think that asbestos adhesive was used on the wood floors (there was tile under the carpet that we took up). Rather then risk it (and since we couldn’t unring that bell) we decided to paint the floors a grey color. At this point in time we can’t afford to replace all the floors up stairs so this was a good option for us! I’ll post pictures one we finish painting

@Decor&More Kiev We are going to change the hardware and spray paint the exposed hinges gold. We will have to live with the kitchen for a while as we don't have money for new cabinets. I thought about painting them, but I'm interested to see what they will look like once we get the whole space spruced up. If I don't like them then I will paint them when it gets warmer outside.

OKAY! I was able to find the pictures of the house of the previous owners (not the ones who sold us the house). You can get a better idea of what I was talking about in terms of the kitchen yellow wall panels.

Wow! If you could get it back to that, it would be pretty tolerable. To look at, anyway. I don't know if it actually functions as a kitchen...

@Fori everything works, whether it will be a joy to cook in is another story. We are just trying to make it look nice with some paint and new flooring. We will revisit redoing the kitchen (and changing the lay out ) in about 2 to 3 years. All the appliances still work with the exception on the dishwasher.

It looks roomy. I like having a kitchen table IN the middle of the kitchen. Kind of old school, but functional as well as pleasant.

Too bad they painted the wood in there. I mean, yeah, there was way too much of it, but sometimes you might as well go all the way!

Seems like you have your project broken down into a prioritized list. That's always a good starting point.

Looks like there's a portion of the backsplash with mosaic tiles. What's the plan there?

@homedecoraz it’s just peel and stick tile so we will be taking it down. we plan to put up another peel and stick tile in it’s place

Wait a minute? Those last three pics are what the house looked like in 2013? Was there a gang of meth heads living in there in before you bought it?

They were probably up for 72 hours one time and thought it would be cool go glue maps all over the walls.

On the bright side, they may not have been there long enough for neglect to have taken its toll.

@sambah006 and @fori I think the person that we brought it from was probably depressed. Every time we came to view the house he was there. He sat on the back steps will we were doing the home inspection with 2 of his dogs. He hadn’t packed up anything and we were the second conttact on the home. It was a crazy experience and I’m glad that we are in there now fixing up the place!
