Lights or no Lights in addition to L.E.D Mirror

Hi, just wondering if you put additional wall lights above a LED mirror. I have ceilings lights and a light over the tub.

Is is good enough just to have the LED mirror alone against the wall without anyother lights above it.

LED bath mirror , alone.
LED bath mirror with additional lights above it.

Depends on the mirror and LED lights but typically they do not offer enough light on your face.

Pictures would be helpful in answering. We like to eer on the side of more lighting, but also not necessarily overhead. In the bath mirror you definitely want to be lit from the front rather than overhead, much more flattering.

Have LED lights in the Medicine cabinet mirror. Bright enough that I need to use Dimmer. Only reason for additional overhead light is if space is quite large(or irregular shape) and leaves some area away from mirror in a shadow. Otherwise, light on face is practical and spreads across room quite well without an additional overhead fixture.

If you like the way the LED mirror lights up your face, then you don't need additional lights.

Can you provide a photo of the vanity with the LED mirror? It's hard to say without seeing how the lighting affects the room currently. You will want to avoid shadows from the wrong/not enough lighting.

Better to have the option of a light above the mirror. You do not have to turn it on, but it is nice to have as an option. Maybe at times you want only to use the light above and not use the mirror lights - this is from my experience. The more options you have with lighting, the better.

In my opinion, I say go with a LED lit medicine cabinet.vs. a standard lit mirror. If you need more bathroom storage, a medicine cabinet is the way to go. Nowadays medicine cabinets don't look like medicine cabinets. Some brands offer customized sizes and configurations that can ganged together. .They can be recces or surface mounted. And some of these mirrored medicine cabinets have integrated LED lighting, mirrored doors and mirrored back walls, which also enhance the illuminative brightness of the built in lighting. Also, some offer a nightlight with dinner function. So, you will not only have lighting from your main bathroom, but an additional light source So, the multi-functionality is a huge bonus.

salamonb - That is not necessarily true. It depends on the brand and also how the light is integrated into the mirror, and also the CRI of the light and lumen output. Some mirrors are not built with strong lighting or its not integrated in a way where it will properly illuminate the face.

I thought that was the purpose to provide good light. In hotels, they are plenty enough.

I just came back from a mini vaca and the LED back lit mirror was actually ample light. Just make sure you get a neutral color temp. Yes add recessed, you always need options, and sometimes you dont need the mirror on.
