New lighting would be th first thing I would change then add actual drapes to the window that silly little flounce at the top does not invoke beautiful bedroom to me.I would need to see the night tables but in my head they will look cheap next to that headboard. Maybe start with new bedding and then decide on a rug since IMO neither works in the space as is. Blue grays are tricky and neither taupe or charcoal work in my mind . Please if you want a nice bedroom remove the towel and robe holder for sure . I almosrt always use bedding to set the style for the bedroom and also the color palette.I see a nice matlesse under a throw so maybe start with a throw in a nice color that works with the wall color then I would go with a white shag rug and some nice linen or faux silk drapes depending on what the dressers and night tables look like. IMO a rug is a last choice uless you have a an expensive rug that sets the tone for the space. So a nice blue throw with some texture and that works with the walls and then choose some drapes that work with the throw then a rug .
