Albuquerque is a specific enough environment that you may need to learn about cherry tree growth in your area, as growing conditions elsewhere will be quite different. You would also have to know how local trees have been pruned before judging their appearance.

I'm in zone 5 and planted an Evans cherry in 2010. I'd read that cherries generally don't need any pruning, so I've only removed badly crossing branches. Here it is full-grown last spring, after a really tough winter, so I let it go again, but I definitely need to prune it this year!

Thank you both. Unfortunately I don't know of anyone or anywhere locally growing these cherries. A friend of mine grew a Montmorency (until it succumbed to borers) so I know what that looks like. Thanks for you photo party_music50. At least that gives me an idea.

Carmine Jewel, Romeo and Juliet are bushes. I have them in pots. I suppose they could be pruned into a more tree-like form but will still essentially be bushes. I believe that they will only grow to 6ft. tall.
