I use Easy-Off in my self-cleaning oven! (I've heard too many horror stories about the self-clean cycle damaging the motherboard so I've never used it. Used to use it on my non-electronic oven, though.)

I agree with Easy Off. Sometimes I have to that a particular area a few times but then it is nice and clean. Wear gloves.

Try warming the oven up--try 250 degrees. The pour hydrogen peroxide on the spot. If this trick works, the black stuff should just lift/ float off.

Oven cleaner gives me a headache. I apply a paste of water and baking soda and let sit for about half-hour then simply wipe away the stain.

Wow, thank you all. I will try baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, and then resort to Easy Off if need be. I am glad to know it can be used on a self-cleaning oven.

• Easy Off just can't be used on a "continuous clean" oven. The surface is textured, I guess that what was supposed to make stuff not adhere? But the Easy Off couldn't be used.

If the baking soda doesn't loosen the burnt on crud enough, have you tried the old restaurant/commercial kitchen method of warming an oven (and shutting it off), placing a bowl of ammonia on the top rack (maybe a ½ cup to a cup), and a large pot of boiling water on the bottom rack, and leaving that in the closed oven for overnight?

If you must to resort Easy-Off, I'd suggest looking for the kind that is labeled "Easy-Off Fume Free for Self Cleaning Ovens." That's what I've used occasionally in my current oven which does not have a self-clean cycle and it does not seem to harm the finish or leave lingering odiferous residues.

Continuous and self-cleaning is not the same thing.

Continuous cleaning ovens (which have long gone by the wayside) have a special porous / catalyst surface treatment that allows grease spatters to spread and disperse over time at normal baking temperatures. Harsh chemical oven cleaner will damage the surface.

Self-cleaning ovens have a standard porcelain interior so no direct harm occurs.

H-o-w-e-v-e-r .... the theory is that chemical residue can remain which will vaporize if the high-heat self-clean process is subsequently run. It's OK to use in terms of no damage ... but running self-clean later involves a risk. If you do that, I'd advise to instruct the buyers to NOT use the self-clean function. Your choice on both points.

Perhaps the product JWVideo references above is formulated differently to avoid the issue.

My Electrolux Wave touch oven owners manual specifically says to not use regular oven cleaners. So if you do, it might ruin the paint? Ours gets cleaned once a year and is seven years old, I use the "light dirt" (or STTE) setting.

One year, I had a roast with a really high 400+°F

temp for 30 minutes. If you look at the photo, you can see the white ring in the blue paint from where the heat element is located. Nice. I figure whoever buys the house when we sell, if the oven lasts that long, will change it out.

Porcelain oven interiors are not painted. Porcelain is a glass/ceramic coating applied/fused to the steel cavity.

Cavimum, that’s my exact oven. I do like it. But went with Bosch for the new house.
