Hello Friends,

I am in process of finishing the basement. I live in Michigan, planning to have a fireplace (Gas or electric) in the basement as we have lot of cold days here. I am planning to use this place as a multi purpose/ general home theater place. With my layout i have limited options and that is where i would need your help and guidance.

Please see the following two options for FP location i came up with:

1.) Corner Fireplace :

2) Side Fireplace:

Gas fireplace : It can throw good amount heat and the location is on exterior wall and it can be vented out, however i am worried if the flame flickering/light will be a hindrance or inconvenience while watching movies.

Electric Fireplace: I found some electric fireplaces, where heat can be operated independently of flame, i can turn off the flame while watching movies and heater can run. however, the amount of heat from electric fireplaces are not that much. It will take the chill off for approx 350-400 Sqft

Please suggest which location would be better and which type of fireplace. I am open for any other location ideas.
