Looks like you'll need to do some repairs. Do you want to keep the sidelight?

Replace the shutters with wide trim, and paint the trim whatever color you'd use for shutters. Is your siding color changing?

I'd want more glass to gain some more light coming in. Are you willing to go contemporary and remove the shutters, change the lighting and house numbers to a more contemporary look? What is your garage door like?

Upgrade to more modern/contemporary light fixtures if you take the rest of it that direction.

I have the very same door down here in Florida. The steel door can be stripped for about $200, far less than a replacement and then primed and painted at additional cost.

That is a typical and appropriate design for the 80's. Those doors posted above with the glass at the top are not appropriate for the style of your home. See possible solutions below.

If you want a prefinished fiberglass door, the one below would be appropirate for your home.

That is a Craftsman style door and you don't have a craftsman style home.

Adding some lighting around will help create a nice welcoming warmth, and will go with any color!

Shannon, you can go modern or you can go "80's meh" with this house, but a craftsman door will look totally out of place here.

If you just removed the shutters and updated your door, lighting, landscaping, and house numbers, this house could be a standout.

sticking craftsman features on a house that is clearly NOT a craftsman house will indeed be confusing, and won’t look very good. It’s a lovely house, but don’t try to make it something it isn’t. Grover’s changes and landscaping looks perfect. If it were me I would just copy that.

Beautiful Florida. If the current door can be reworked, have it repainted and go with that. Otherwise, chose one similar to Beverly's MCM options.

OK, I'll say another piece in the hopes of unconfusing you, Shannon. Your house with its clean lines and lack of ornamentation is 80s contemporary, which is sort of meh. The shutters have to go because they don't fit and don't add anything.

The most outstanding feature here is the palms which are graceful and sculptural and need to be showcased and matched by other sculptural plants rather than a boring hedge. I chose philodendron selloum and red yucca, but you'll need to consult with your best local garden center to see what they recommend for your locale. I also mulched them with a simple river rock.

The door, lighting, shutters, and house numbers are all mid century modern which is in keeping with the simplicity of the house.
