carpet in bedrooms???

We are having hardwood floor throughout the home. My husband wants carpet in the bedrooms (and the kids love the carpet too). Not sure how it will look with amazing hardwood floors throughout and then carpet in the rooms. Thought??

It can definitely work. Lots of our family members and friends put carpet in the bedrooms with hardwood for the rest of the house. Is your husband opposed to area rugs instead of carpet?

Not opposed, but he just rather have carpet for some reason.

I vote for hardwood. I would get rug under bed instead carpet.

it's done all the time. It looks fine.

Melinda, Beth's right...it is done all the time and looks fine...more than fine. Lots of people prefer carpet in bedrooms. Our daughter and son-in-law recently had hardwood put in but carpeted the bedrooms. Their home is lovely.

It’s not my preference but, if it’s to be done, it should be done on that entire floor (excluding bathroom). In most homes that means bedrooms +hall. And one carpet, not different ones in different rooms. Avoid the patchiness of changes in flooring materials.

Carpet for sure in bedrooms! I've had both and did not like the hardwood in my bedroom. It was hard to control the dust bunnies that rolled into my closets and got onto the bottom of my clothes; however, it your going for aesthetics over functionality, I'd go with hardwood. It does look nicer - just harder to keep up - IMO

Allergies? I used a pet-hair brush on carpeting, and couldn't believe the debris, so even the disintegrating carpet fiber holds dust. Can ya even see all the dust in there...

I would advise against wall-to-wall carpet in bedrooms. If you have beautiful wood floors choose carpet or area rug that is 12 to 18 inches smaller than your room on all sides and lay it on top of your floor. You can choose standard carpet and have it edged bound. It’s not expensive to do and you can rotate the carpet or take it out for cleaning if necessary. That’s especially nice and children’s rooms where they tend to spill.

It's of course a personal choice though since the cost is not a barrier to your final decision, I believe that overall the hardwoods throughout our house is a classic and beautiful, consistent choice. There are many options for rugs over the floors in your bedroom areas to make them soft and welcoming. We are presently dealing with what was previously used in our farmhouse, carpet in the bedrooms, and would have been thrilled and loved it if hardwoods had been used from the start.

    P. S. Sorry, typo, "hardwoods throughout A house"

Carpet helps with noise control. Second floor bedrooms transmit every footstep on a wood floor to the rooms below. In cold climates tiny (and not so tiny) toes stay warmer. Wood floors in bedrooms are easier to play with fire trucks and Hot Wheels. Wood floors are easier to keep clean. You have to decide how your family will flourish in your house.

I personally would do hardwood through the house and use area rugs.

Carpet in bedrooms is extremely common here (Midwest), but once we put hardwood (or any solid surface, really) in the bedrooms, I will never go back to carpet. I suppose the vibe does feel a little less soft and cushy, but they are calm and clean and much easier to keep clean. Every time I vacuum or sweep dust bunnies from the corners of the bedroom and from under the bed, I am thankful that all that dust isn’t stuck in the carpet. My kids enjoy playing on solid surface, too. The floors have never felt cold to me either, but the bedrooms aren’t at ground level, which has a lot to do with that. It would be a huge hassle and expense to go back and add more hardwood later, so I would just do the wood completely throughout. Add large area rugs if you want to soften it up.

We have hardwood downstairs but our carpeted bedrooms are upstairs. I like it for the comfort and quietness. Just feels calmer when it’s quieter to me. I know people say area rugs, but I haven’t found an area rug that is as cushioned as my carpets.
