Just to make sure I got you, he's going to recess that wall mount fireplace straight back into the wall or build out a little wall with columns to enclose it?

I'm into the black. What makes black really black is a light color around it, but silver & black leans a little gaudy. I'd ask for samples of the wood he wants to use and see if it works. If it fails, & the silver is a fail - white stone with the black mantel top would be the way to go.

Yes he’s going to build it out and add columns if I want them-he also doesn’t like the silver and black -he wants to recess it to cover the silver and then build me a wood mantel-the brown wood worries me but I have found a few pics with that-and he is going to send me some pics with his ides-we are only going to do it around the fireplace not the tv

Wow, so he's going to put that whole thing in a box to get rid of that silver. He's dedicated! In that case I'd be interested in seeing how he'd return the wood to the metal without a gap (sorry -dork detail). Keep me posted if you don't like what he shows you. There's always a solution.

I am strongly suggesting you spend time on Houzz looking for fireplace surrounds and wait until you fall in love with something! Then discuss it with your contractor.

It is your space; it needs to reflect your taste and style. Go for the look that brings you great joy when you enter the room!!!!

The tv is too high for comfortable viewing and is too large compared to the little fireplace...overwhelming the entire room. Place the tv at eye level to a seated adult: set it on a cabinet or console.

Rethink the whole wall. The TV is much too high, and the plug-in ?fireplace? can be moved elsewhere.
