Farewell, gold-leaf kitchen

We are about to embark on a long-overdue remodel of our -- how shall I say? -- idiosyncratic kitchen, which we have lived with for almost 25 years now. I can't locate our earliest photos, when we first bought this house (from an artist), so you will have to imagine the bright orange walls and ceiling (we toned that down a bit), and the large seashells he used for cabinet pulls (we replaced them with brass moon and stars, go figure ....). But yes, that is real gold leaf on the cabinets, and a redwood burl counter. I am not really sure what I am doing yet, but have some general ideas: no upper cabinets, induction range (don't need wall oven), thoughtful storage, lots of drawers, more counter space, some wall space for art, uncluttered, softer floor (Marmoleum?), a somewhat "unfitted" (furniture-like) design, not too matchy-matchy. Anyway, here is a BEFORE photo the likes of which few have ever seen .... followed by a couple more if I can figure out how to do this!
