Wallpaper prices

How much would be a decent amount to spend on a single roll of wallpaper? I’m in the process of ordering wallpaper for a single 14 ft wall and it’s costing me $800. Phillip Jeffries naturals collection. Is that a normal price?

Overpriced
Yeah that’s average for good quality paper

I love wallpaper! I think it can elevate a room to a new level more so than a piece of art. I know that many wallpapers are pricey. I have spent close to that for a custom paper for one wall. But I also wallpapered a powder room for $150. I have also seen paper that was thousands per wall & some that were less than a hundred (on sale). Many of the new wallpapers are easy to strip when it's time to redecorate, so I wouldn't considerate it a deal breaker. If you think the paper is too pricey, perhaps shop around for another pattern or print. There are plenty of options online, as well as off the rack at a good paint decor store. A decent piece of art with framing can cost a lot more than some rolls of wallpaper! Good luck & post an update when you get it done.

Phillip Jeffries is one of the top wallpaper designers. That sounds about right for his wallpaper. You can of course, go to other wallpaper places, and maybe get something that looks similar if you want to lower the price. There are many beautiful wallpapers at decor stores, that look great on the wall, but, are not so pricey. Make sure you apply it properly, so it will strip off easily someday, when either you or someone else wants to remove it.

Thanx all. I definitely want wallpaper specifically for my space. ( art to decorate in addition) I am just shocked As I expected to spend around $400 on paper. im working w a designer who brought me the samples and helped me choose. She just shouldve let me know which price point we’re talk about. I feel that after all the hours choosing, and paying the designer for her time, there’s no pulling back....

Only $800? Does that include install? Because I’d expect even the install from a good paper hanger to be more than that.

And for heaven’s sake don’t look at Zuber or anything hand done. This is half priced because it is missing a panel. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zuber-El-Dorado-scenic-wallpaper-PRICE-SLASHED-5K-Rare-opportunity-to-buy-/301953271928

    $800 without install.

If you are not comfortable with that price point then be upfront with your designer. She/ he has access to many fine sources and should be able to find something equally stylish for less. This is a high price, quality paper so you can expect to pay more but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something else out there for you if you are really uncomfortable!

That price sounds about right, and about what I paid for the paper in the powder room I just did. For me, good wallpaper > paint.

Echoing lynartist. "I feel that after all the hours choosing, and paying the designer for her time, there’s no pulling back...." Nope. Be upfront about your budget. You might have the money to spend that much on an item and it might work in the global room budget but that doesn't mean you want to spend that much. You can have "budget limits" on particular items.

As a designer I need to know upfront what you think you should pay if you don’t tell me I choose what seems right.I don’t know what the wallpaper looks like but I am in the buy art camp you love it forever and can be moved when ever you choose and if down the road you don’t love it sell it.

All wallpaper manufacturers serve a certain price point in the market. Philip Jefferies would be considered a 'Mercedes' level price point. All of his wallpapers require the skills of a top-notch wallpaper hanger. Otherwise, you might as well set fire to the paper now and not bother to install it. Much of PJ wallpaper designs are proprietary and will be hard to find a less expensive replacement. However, some are just grasscloth styles that can be easily matched.

I don't see any collection called out as the NATURALS COLLECTION

i know its unique. nicer in real life than image. I just wish I wouldve known price point before choosing this paper. And thanx for tip about installer. Painter is subcontracting someone, so I will make sure hes top notch.

Quite honestly, I dont think it is very attractive at any price. I would keep looking.

Great texture. Should add an interesting dimension to the room.

That is a beautiful paper by PJ and I don't see any of the cheaper versions as equal ...or even coming close. That said, only you can decide if the cost of it and the install is in your budget. Perhaps there are other places to economize on the project?

Yes that is a normal price. Make sure you get a very good wallpaper hanger. That makes all the difference :)

Update: I went ahead and ordered the wallpaper. It’s absolutely beautiful! I fig install would cost the same for a cheaper paper or this more upgraded option and do not regret my choice. Will cut back elsewhere....

It's beautiful! I'm so glad you love it!!

Consider switching out your outlets, switches, and covers to a black or brown. I'm also wondering whether a dark charcoal would work on trim to magnify the impact of your paper?

Beautiful. Yes, sometimes it’s worth it to spend extra on something you love & cut back elsewhere. That’s my philosopby on shoes .... I much rather have a fewer really good ones that look & feel better than a lot of cheaper ones. :)

I'm surprised that a supposedly knowledgeable website like Houzz would feature an answer that makes a blanket statement like wallpaper is "...expensive to remove and creates a whole lot of damage when you remove it." As a blanket statement that is factually incorrect; I know from personal experience. It depends, among other things, on the composition of the wall and the type of glue used for the wallpaper. I've removed wallpaper from two rooms in my house, and it hasn't been a big problem, nor has it done any damage.
