How do we paint this?

Are we supposed to pain the ceiling??! We are getting ready to paint

    Is there a popcorn finish on the white that is above the color or just on the flat of the ceiling? If it is just on the ceiling, I would paint only that part white. I don't like how the white sits on top of the windows so low like that.

      That's odd! I Thinkmthe popcorn texture confuses the picture. I'd try to smooth out the popcorn stuff and paint the walls and the slanted part only.

      Wow. That's a fist.

      I'd run a picture molding along the lower edge of the sloped wall where the color change occurs and keep the color line differentiation where it is. Painting the sloped wall the wall color would look odd in my opinion.

      I have painted sloped walls and liked it. But nothing as drastic as this. It really makes the windows look odd to not have the wall color over them.

      What about adding a picture rail at the junction, and painting above with a lighter shade of the wall paint on ceiling and slants?

      I know this will not sound like much help, but it is tough to fully appreciate the look without being there with you.....so my suggestion is to paint what you consider a WALL and to leave what you consider the ceiling and you will not be wrong!

      I know, this baffles me. Here is our inspiration photo. The ceiling of our room now is not popcorn it's knock down

      I think I'd paint the ceiling and walls the same color, but the ceiling a couple shades lighter than the wall color.

      All comments have been so helpful! I'm leaning towards the common sense comment by Abby... Paint what I think is a wall.... I'd say a wall includes the slant, leaving the ceiling white. Will this look odd?

      Yes, paint what you consider to be the wall, and if needed trim it out with molding so that the viewer knows (by virtue of the molding) that 'the wall ends here....

      I would paint above the windows, to move the visual eye upward to finish. they look chopped if not painted

      I would paint ceilings one shade lighter than the wall. It will still appear a little darker due to less distribution of natural light hitting that plane in the room. It will also bring the room together more smoothly.

      Paint the walls all the way to the ceiling (where the air vents and light fixture are) and paint the soffit above the bay window the same color as the walls. Once the paint is placed correctly in the room, it will be a beautiful room.

      Last question... Do you think I should paint the "ceiling" of the window alcove the same color as our walls?
