Thank you! I love Dianthus Firewitch. I have a couple of clumps. They have an amazing smell. They’re not as cold hardy here, but they partially manage to survive on the South side.

Actually, I believe my Dianthus Firewitch is experiencing crown rot, rather than freeze, due to the clay soils. It should be cold hardy well below what we get in Western Oklahoma.

Yes, it is perfectly hardy here. Often planting on a slightly raised gravel mound will allow it to be happy.

Portulaca/ moss rose functions as an annual here and so would not be present in winter. As it currently stands, I think this bed needs some winter interest. It also likes a relatively dry setting, so I am not sure how it would do with the clay base. It is a beautifu plant.

Angelina has been happier than Blue Spruce in my garden, but your conditions are different than mine.

Due to how different south exposure in Oklahoma is, I suggest you post this on the Oklahoma forums. I've lived there.

I've had good luck with both dianthus and blue spruce sedum in east central Oklahoma

I think the Blue Spruce sedum sounds like a winner. Did you plant it? I assume you have the very tough summer growing conditions of southwestern OK and your landscape is just gorgeous.

Thank you Dawn. Yes I planted the Blue Spruce sedum. We have windy conditions and heat. I worked in a bag of oak leaves I had, before I planted it. I also have Autumn Joy stonecrop in other parts of my beds around the red Yuccas.
