Our basement stairway was far too narrow to get sheets of drywall to finish the walls or ceiling, so my retired carpenter dad had the idea to finish with tongue and groove (we didn't use the beveled side so we could get a more modern look). All along, I had planned to prime and paint the pine, making the room a light gray with white trim to match the style of the rest of the house as much as possible.
Now that the wood is on the walls, my husband loves the rustic look, especially with our flat-black painted ceiling. I admittedly think it looks cool - but it is just *too* different from the contemporary style of our house (built in 2004).
Any thoughts or opinions?
