I personally like shutters on most homes. It gives a house an extra decorative detail. But with your lovely windows I think your house might look better without them. Since you are buying new ones, take down the old ones and see if you like it without shutters before you buy the new ones.

I'd look at the color Soot, sort of a navy/black. Then put your $$ into landscaping. Your house would be so nice with better landscaping and a flowering tree or two in front.

I would purchase wider shutters as they all look too narrow for the windows. My color choice would be black. Paint the front railing and door black. I would also paint the downspouts a mid tone color of one of the bricks. I also prefer solid panel shutters. Your front yard looks deep with a lot of lawn. Consider an island somewhere in the yard with some quite low evergreens and maybe some flowers as well, adjacent to the garage area but starting just before where the garage attaches to the house. No "glock" on the door, but add a large brass knocker...every one loves large "knockers".

Black is a good and classic choice. Some Sherwin Williams colors to consider - Tricorn Black b - think about pairing it with sort or a royal blue door - or a VERY DARK Navy for doors and shutters - look at Naval and In the Navy. BTW - I don't work for SW, just love their paint and colors. Oh and by the way, use a Semigloss Finish!

No, you need the shutters to balance the elaborate trim around the front door. Go for black.
