help! make a small window seat for this alcove

I have an awkward alcove with a wide solid window ledge. I want to either expand the window ledge or make a really simple window seat for my daughter. The ledge is 24 inches high. The alcove is 24 inches on wall with the picture and 16 inches on the left wall. The window ledge is solid and can be used as part of the seating.

I want to make a seating area that’s w24xL24xH24. I was thinking to just get a 24 inch tall bookcase and put a piece of plywood over it and rest the plywood on the window ledge, then put a thick French mattress/pillow.

Will this work? Should I build it with 2 by 4 and plywood? I’m not good at this stuff. It would be cute to build something freestanding so she could have a cubby hole hiding space/storage under the window seat.

I have a cheap drill and a level but am a single mom and don’t want to take on a huge building project that’s going to cost lots of money. Any ideas?
