I have a 24" diameter nursery pot (I figure about 25 gallons) that I have been wanting to plant something in. It has about 12 inches of native FL soil in it, which has been amended over the past 4 years with cardboard, leaves & earthworms. I plant to feed the earthworms while things are growing with kitchen scraps and leaves/grass clippings.

I figure, since the pot slopes on the sides, that I have about 3 sq ft of planting space. I have an old ladder back that I turned into a trellis and grew some beans on a couple of years ago.

This is my "last chance" to plant beans, and I want to do Kentucky Wonder, but I also want to put some southern peas in there for added nitrogen fixing. I'm not sure on how many of each to plant. Charts say different things. I grew three pole beans in a 5-gallon pot one year and they did really well, so maybe I could do 6 in this one? As for the southern peas, maybe only two? I'm just looking for a few beans to cook fresh. The three plants I had before weren't quite enough.

This container veggie gardening is sort of alien to me, so I'll take any help I can get.
