How best to address this question depends heavily on where you are located. English ivy is a major invasive threat in many parts of the country so if you are located in those areas, I'd strongly recommend removal.

I live in zone 7b in maryland. Its pretty isolated to that area next to the house I just dont know if thats the best choice for ground cover or use for space.

If you do that try to get them level, rather than following the slope which the existing timbers appear to be doing.

Yes the ground does level off at the bottom there but it is still a bit above the rest of the lawn to the left. Thank you for your advice!

You want the timbers or landscape rocks to be placed perpendicular to or laterally across the bed to break the slope, not parallel to follow it.
