I think the colors definitely work and the tile would bring a fresh snap to your bath. However, I agree with NA. A busy pattern like that will more quickly look dated, even though it doesn't now. That's not a reason to reject it out of hand, but something to consider if it's important to you.

For example, your existing floor fits nicely; it's the hexagon shape which makes it dated. An arabesque tile shape in the same color would fit more with the times, but objectively, is there really that much difference between a hexagon and arabesque shape? An arabesque shape will look just as dated as time goes by as your hexagon tiles do today.

For full disclosure, I was going to use a similar tile as your choice in my mud/laundry room and decided against it because of the cost, not because it would look dated more quickly. I went with wood-look plank porcelain tile, which will look dated just as quickly if it isn't already. However, it turned out beautifully to my eye, which is what counts for me since I will have to look at it every day.

Hex isn't dated; it's classic and still being produced by top tile companies.

The wall tile is dated however. And the Morrocan-style vanity is the wrong style for a small bath with a classic tub and tiles.

I love your current wall and floor tiles...and event your tiled vanity! RetroRenovation is a site that you might want to explore before you make any changes. Lucky you to have a vintage bathroom! See? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Although I do respect your decision to change your bathroom to suit your needs.

I generally like simple materials for permanent stuff and then add visual interest with accessories. I would have a bath rug with the pattern you want rather than replace the tile. It is a lot easier to change bath rugs than to rip out the tile when it goes out of style. For me the tile is too busy especially if it is the entire floor.

If the floor is tiled all the way under the existing vanity (it isn't always in old baths), I would just change the vanity. If not, then you'll have to do the floor. Personally, I think that in addition to the new vanity you'd get more of an updated look by changing the shower doors for something more modern than you will from the floor.

BTW, hex that size is very hot right now, even more than your cement tile.

I would have a bath rug with the pattern you want rather than replace the tile.

    Very good suggestion!

Here is another view !! I agree the hex is in but it also has these sporadic flowers

The flowers make it even better! I love the vintage bath, so I wouldn't spend the money to change it unless it's damaged in some way. I do agree that upgrading the glass doors might be a good idea.

I really like your floor! It's vintage fabulous. Your wall tiles are what I don't care for. I do not think that your vanity option goes well with you decor.

I like the pattern of the floor tiles, but I don't think it's going to look right with the old speckled 4 inch wall tiles.

Have you talked to a contractor about this plan? It is not as easy as you might think to demo and replace the floor tile but not the walls.

I don't love that vanity. I think both that and your proposed new floor tiles read very "2017," and will feel dated quickly. They also don't go with the speckly wall tiles. If this was my bathroom, I would keep all the tile as it is and get a new, much more neutral vanity and get rid of the sliding glass shower doors. Or I would gut the whole thing. But I dig the retro feel.

First - I think with a vanity like that you need a clean painted wall ( or a nice wainscot panel ) - I would remove the wall tile.

Second - do you love it??? Patterned encaustic and ceramic tile has been on floors and walls in Europe for hundreds of years - just like everything else - this too will fall in and out of fashion. If you were selling your home in the next couple of years, then I would suggest staying a bit more neutral - but if you aren't then do what you love!

The tile is beautiful - it will go nice with the vanity ( please remove the wall tiles and change the tub glass doors )

    Best of luck!!!

    Hex is back? Woo hoo!

Add me to the list of those who love the vintage bath! I actually think if you just replace your vanity knobs, faucet, and shower doors that bathroom could look fantastic.
