Mix barstool type and color?

I just completed a kitchen remodel and have two peninsulas. One faces my living room (the photo with the beige furniture) and the other will face the family room (wall has Spanish tile and furniture is dark grey). The family room is under renovation also so the furniture isn’t placed yet. I included the photo for the color. I also have a s,all bar with dark grey cabinets that is in the family room close to the kitchen.
The family room peninsula can accommodate 4 stools and the living room wall 3. I’m not sure if I should go with beige or grey stools. And I’m thinking of backless for the living room and backs for the family room. I’m afraid if I do all stools with backs that it will look like you’re walking into a bar at a restaurant! My husband wants swivel, I do not. So can I do the backless and backsplash! Can I mix colors? (Beige in living room, grey in family room or a totally different color like a blue?). If I need better photos let me know.

Yes, you can do anything you want and I think you're right that it will keep it from looking like a restaurant. And if you do one side backless, then you could to two different colors because they won't be seen at the same time.

What is your objection to swivel? Seems to be so much easier to get in and out of if all the chairs are filled.

That tile is gorgeous!

Thanks Bev but I’m looking for more of a transitional look and not as modern with the pedestal bases. Can I mix backless and backs?

I think you are going to have a tough time finding a stool to go with that very bossy tile on one of the peninsulas. It's unfortunate you decided to treat peninsulas differently, you have a self-manufactured design dilemma. I suggest go with the same stool on both peninsulas and i would go with black finish so they stand out against the tile. And go with a strong simple design so they are visible and aren't overpowered by the tile.

Definitely keep all the stools the same style & colour. I too suggest a black finish. Take a look for example, at the Hanna Counter Stool, 25.5" Seat Height, Black. It's a Matt black with clean straight lines and won't compete with the peninsulas and will tie in with the rest of your space.

We might recommend you keep both stools the same color. However you can use white since the living room with the beige also has white in the rug.
