My laundry room was a dark, depressing 25 year old space that is a walk through to/from garage and opens to my kitchen. The upper oak cabinets were useless and made the room dark and claustrophobic and the two clothes rods made the room even more cluttered. I wanted to give it an update without spending a ton of money--make it pretty enough to keep the door open from the kitchen, make it more functional and bring it in line with some of the other updates in the home.

We removed the upper cabinets, replaced the door fronts on the sink base and tall cabinet to shaker style, added shelves to the tall cabinet and had all the wood painted white. We found a beautiful marble remnant for the sink counter and folding table and put in a deep under-mount stainless sink and new faucet. We kept the existing, fairly new vinyl tile flooring and painted the walls a deep grey. Instead of the rod, I now have a retractable clothes line. By managing the job myself and doing as much of the work as we could ourselves, we saved a ton and now have a more functional and pretty space that co-ordinates with the rest of the house.
