    Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to Houzz!

The oil tunnel is a long piece that goes along the back bottom of the hood. The baffle filters sit in a slanted position when installed in the hood, and the back of the filters rest on the tunnel. So when the filters separate the oil and grease from the air and steam, it can travel down and collect in the oil tunnel.

I hope this helps! Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-448-1632 and we will be happy to answer any additional questions or assist in placing your order!
