They won't fall apart.

On the other hand, they are not necessarily the bargain people think unless you DIY completely and are happy with the limited choices available.

I put Ikea cabinets in my first house back in 1990. My son still lives in the town where that house is, is still friendly with the woman who bought the house and those cabinets are still going strong in the house.

My sister had her Ikea cabinets in her house for well over 10 years with no problems. Oh wait. The doors did eventually get dinged a bit but show me any cabinet after 10 years with a young son that isn't dinged a bit.

Tell your husband he should do his research and not assume. Yes Ikea bookcases, etc are not made as well, but their kitchen cabinets are built to last. They even use Blum hardware.

Go buy a couple. Have husband put them

together and see what he really thinks.

Frameless cabs need bolting together. If you do what live wire advises, make sure that your husband bolts the individual cabs together. This is what makes them solid as a rock.

Weve used a lot of assembly required products, and IKEA cabinets are the best we've used.
The hardware is exceptional. Some doors are better than others... I love my IKEA kitchen, and closets.
Did ikea in a bath and office going on 15vyears ago, in another home. Still look great.
