Clarification: Seems Mr Shoup will keep the online rose business, they are selling the accompanying gardens.

A tragedy, but I guess I should read the article before commenting.

I heard this earlier. And yes. It broke my heart.

I was fortunate enough, some years back, to be able to park my RV in the garden's "back 40" during the Fall Festival. That allowed me to walk through the gardens by moonlight -- something I will NEVER forget.

Mike's one of the nicest people I know.

My heart sank into my shoes when I saw the title. I've only talked to Mr. Shoup on the phone, but he was so nice. When I had to tell him that his La France was not the correct rose (it was Mme. Leon Pain) he sent me his book 'Empress of the Garden' to thank me! What a man.

Am I seeing the right article? The link leads to one dated in 2015??

I am totally speechless . ARE is my favorite store. I have bought most of my roses from Mike Soup plus the soaps and his book. I got to sit down.....haven't Dong on me yet.

I doubt it, Summers. They are keeping the mail order business. I was at ARE (the display gardens) a couple of weekends ago, so it is still there, but some of the plants were looking a little haggard (it is Summer though so not the best time to view many rose/plant display gardens). The grounds with the mail-order roses were close enough that from the retail establishment/display gardens, a call could be made, and someone would bring in stock roses over in 15-20 minutes.

Unfortunately, looking at RRD maps, if this scourge is not eradicated, in a short amount of time, I fear it will be everywhere in the continental U.S.

This is old news, I think, and the mail order business goes on as normal. I can see where display gardens are hard to keep up along with the online rose selling business. Mike Shoup is a wonderful man. I'm putting in a new order.

The headline in this thread is misleading.

Maybe he changed his mind on selling. It’s not for sale on Zillow.

Any updates on this? I’ve talked to Mike several times this summer and he seems to be running business as usual. So I wasn’t aware of any changes. Gardens still look good, and they’ve even been expanding their inventory. Did something change?

I hate the thought of that garden being lost. We've lost so much.

Jerijen, I’m sure it’ll be around for a while. I’m slowly acquiring all their inventory And landscaping 5 acres with it just in case!

I talked to them earlier in the spring and it sounded like they are keeping the gardens. They had them for sale for awhile but dont think there were any offers. It is a glorious place - I plan to go in the fall.
