I can’t imagine a shiplap hood in that space , What are your counters they have to be considered whan choosing backsplash. Why do you leave that tiny space beteen thr trim and the ceiling how will you ever dust up there. What are the surrounding areas like ? A backsplash does not get chosen without context.

Will the black trim stay at the top? Will the wood window trim stay? What will the painted areas be? I say finish everything except backsplash and then post back with new pics and pics that have some backsplash samples so we can start commenting on solid ideas. In concept, you don’t want to pick any tiles that have a lot of variation as your counters do have that already.

Black trim stays, adding black crown molding above it. Window is getting changed to black as well. Not painting, doing whole room with tile.

I caution you with the heavy black trim as you describe. This look will bring the height of the ceiling down even lower than it already is. Just FYI. Also if you need window treatments it makes covering those windows challenging. Your tiler is going to have a very hard time with those corners by the windows - you may want to paint that whole side of the room.

Valid points but unfortunately we already purchased the crown molding. As far as the window treatments, my husband specializes in window and doors and is doing the tile so I’m not worried about that part of it. I did want paint, he wanted tile, he won. :(

I LOVE that idea under the windows!! We used a material called ultra compact. Are you familiar with this material?

I would bring home samples of several light gray subway tiles...nothing darker than the stainless steel tone...to make sure the tile has no undertone.

Utlra Compact is like tile in a slab form. Super durable countertop option!

The kitchen is coming together great. What an asset to have those windows and view above the sink. Also that your husband is able to do the tiling! When I look at the photos, I just don’t “get” the dark above the cabinets. At first glance I thought you left some boxes up there. It seems like it breaks up the kitchen and I’m afraid dark around the windows would do the same. Having the contrasting island and hardware is a really nice touch but it seems out of place in the other area.

Decided to do a warm light green where the red is now.

I think it looks nice and if you put in a black hood (which I believe is your plan) it will look even better. Just MHO for encouragement!

Kitchen is just about done. The only thing I don’t like is the window frame. Do we paint it black, white or leave it?

White. And, I'd be inclined to paint the wall white above the windows as well. When that wall 'reads' as one it will make the height feel more balanced on that side of the room. The strip of green is distracting to me with the view / rest of the kitchen. You are in the homestretch and it's looking good - your light levels seem nicely balanced!

I agree, the green doesn’t work because of how little there is of it. I’d consider painting it white and probably do the trim same color as the cabinets. Lovely kitchen!

I agree on painting the windows white and the wall white, same white as the cabinetry. I did a 3 second mockup in MarkUp.

For me I'd say black IF the window height was taller. If you trim in black your eye will see how low that window is compared to the crown. Seems too busy. I know I wasn't initially on board with tile all the way around the windows but honestly that might work. I'd have to see the other side of the room to better comment / see where the stopping point is.

I like the black trim in the mockups even though it is lower than crown molding. If you like the green I think it is fine (that particular shade wouldn't be my choice but I am picky with greens).

I agree! When I did the mock up I quite liked the black trim look with the green wall, which I was surprised by. If it was my home or a client’s I’d suggest a light grey wall as I think goes better with your white, black and grey color scheme.

Bit with black be prepared to need to dust the sills often :)
