Help Me Accessorize My Hutch Please

We purchased this hutch about a month ago and I bought the metal wall art put place over it and love it! What I need now is help with items to place on it. I know I have too much on it right now but I am trying to see what works that I might keep and what I need to buy. I think I need some height on the left side of it possibly but I don't know what. I don't have an electrical outlet, so I can't use a lamp. This is in my dining room and a sliding glass door is to the left of it.

“Something tall, something small and nothing at all which matches the wall!”
And something colorful. I would put a nice painting above this piece.

I would put a pretty mirror and some pretty flowers right there !hope I helped!

Thank you! I had thought about a painting but I have something larger on the other wall and the room is small, so I thought it might be overkill. I also thought of the mirror but I would only be reflecting the other mirror from the other wall, so it would look like I had the same picture on both walls...lol. I do think something larger with flowers would look good but the type of container/vase has me at a loss.

I would put a taller (maybe 12"? - hard to tell) vase in the corner with just greens. Off-set the word art so that it falls between the vase and the end of the hutch, and move it down a bit. Then, angle an oblong, wooden bowl on the piece, under the word art.

Thank you Sue James! I like that idea as well. I had thought about offsetting the word art if I found something to put to the side of it. I am just having trouble finding what I should put there though to add the height.

I am sorry, I am not a fan of word art. However for the top, I‘d pare down to 3 items, because there are too many now, and it means they blend together rather than allowing the eye to be able to see each one. I would also have each of the 3 be not-brown. I am not trying to be fresh. It’s just that every item in your photo is brown or has brown. You need color, a yellow vase or a pink one, or something.

    That’s not a hutch; it’s a cabinet.

Look at pictures of entry consoles, find one whose styling you like, and copy it. I like felizlady’s “something tall, something small...” advice. You want your decor to form a vignette.

Do something like this with tall candlesticks instead of a lamp if you have no outlet.

I like grover's example, so do look online for something that calls to you. A large piece of art on the wall would be very nice.

    Agree with grover.

Art and simplify. I would have no more than 3 things on that small cabinet that are functional and serve a purpose.

Thank you everyone for the great advice! I am fond of the something tall and something small, so I will give a look online and see what I can come up with.

That’s a cabinet. A hutch (about half the depth) would sit on top of it.
