No. No white beam.
Each of our first three homes (all from the 20’s or early 30’s) had oak floors. The floors were still beautiful after forty years of use. Our fourth home) had carpet over concrete....immediately changed to real oak, which we have used for 33 years.The floor is just about the most important feature in a home. I can’t imagine ever covering or removing original oak floors: if I ever did, it would be to put in new oak flooring.

I think you could leave it as is- or have it stained another shade if you don’t like the way it looks today. See how it looks after the room is painted. Ceiling beams and trim don’t have to match - it will be a very nice accent.

I’d wait and see how it looks after the room is painted - you can always have it stained another color, but I wouldn’t paint it white.

Here's a few more pics. Please excuse mess. I just had 5" molding installed today.

I have no oak in the house at all. This room is carpet (Michigan). Kitchen and Hallways are tile. I really hate the color of oak. I even painted an oak coat bench at front door white chalk paint and antiqued it. Oak curio was painted green and black glaze over it. The yellow/orange undertones oak conveys is just not my taste.

These beams are my last - good move or not?

House is 30 years old. 2 story colonial if that helps

Beautiful room!! Could you have it stained either a darker color, like a dark walnut, or have it stripped and stained to be lighter? Maybe with some gray undertones?

I’d paint it the same color as the ceiling. It’s not something you want to “pop”, but something on that rock face should! A large sculptural piece, perhaps. Good luck!

The feedback is so appreciated everyone! I was thinking making the beam darker could be an option. The ceiling fan is a dark walnut color (with antiqued bronze finish) so I considered going in that deeper tone. I can see going white to make beam 'disappear' is OK making the fireplace be the focal. So basically I have 2 good ideas and could go either way. Ugh! :)

I wouldn’t paint it white. I would either leave it (as it goes with your couch colour, and the colour of your stone on the fireplace)or make it bit darker.

Paint it to match the ceiling color BUT do it in a high gloss finish. It will subtly shimmer, but not be a strong visual element as it is now.
