Save some seeds from BK and then just add CP next year. Grow both.

You can save seed by: before you salt a slice, use a teaspoon to scoop the seeds out of one seed cavity. From one seed cavity on a single slice you can get enough seed for many home gardeners. Drop the seed onto a half half sheet of paper towel, write the name on it and your done.

Many say you have to go thru all sorts of hoops to get the job done, but my families been doing it the lazy way for generations. If you do it my way you'll be done and then you can spend days learning the hard way and most will never get to the point where they actually do it.

I have plenty of seed of Black Krim -- I usually keep what's left in the seed packet year to year. Thanks for the tip, though.

CPCP!!!!!!! They are SOOOOOO sweet and flavorful! You do have to eat them quickly once they start softening cause they tend to get mushy fast, but a mater/lemon cuke/basil salad or a BLT will make them go away FAST!

I slightly prefer BK over CP because they seem to have a little less concentric cracking but I haven't grown either for a few years. I prefer several of the various pink slicers over any of the black/purple varieties these days. Rebel Yell, Pruden's Purple, German Johnson, Brandywine Suddeth strain, and Girl Girl's Weird Thing (bi-color) were all standouts in my garden this year but KBX (Kellogg's Breakfast potato leaf- an orange) took 'best in show'.

Keeping ability is one of the characteristics I look for in a slicer and many of the blacks don't hold up well in that regard. Carbon is probably the best tasting black that I've grown and it keeps better than most. It's not terribly productive but it's early to ripen. Indian Stripe is also a good one.
