HELP with guest/spare room.. Does NIOT flow with the rest of the house

I have posted other threads and everyone has been so helpful.. This room does not seem to flow as my other rooms do.. It is used as a guest room or mostly when I am snoring so loud hubby has to sleep there. The room is quite small and the furniture is new only a Full sized bed and nite table I had these curtains that I just loved the color which is a celery green with bronzy circles.. Thoughts? I had some xtra vases I took pics of if any could b used or not. Thanks all:)

What color is the base of the sticks? Will that color work in this room? It just seemed like something that would work. You have to be so careful with lampshades or the light will not shine through. Gosh....darker than off white, but not a DARK beige. Did that make any sense?
Love the idea of a few more pillows on the bed in those other colors, too.
She is so adorbs:) I can find one that's that color. The sticks are red

Now I know where I am staying when I come to visit!
Oh, dear, red? Really? Red like kind of in that picture or RED!
Oh yes I would LOVE a visit...
What else could work in that corner? A plant would take up too much room, right?
Yes I just out them outside actually

NICE, but you already know what I am going to say.......grab the tallest one just so I can see if there is even a reason to think about it anymore. I want MY room to feel right, ya know! LOL
  • 13 years ago
Well I have two sizes of the rattan vases with sticks as in pic above.. I put them outside today and I have this too
  • 13 years ago
The wicker is a bit heavier if you will the iron one is lighter looking??
Ok I will grab it from outside and drag it upstairs abbyjean:) I am just taking lunch again to daughter at babysitting, this is last day, so I will do that when I get back and post... Stay tuned :)

Try your over the bed art in the place where you have the metal piece now. Replace the lamp shade with a light bronze one. Add a tall plant in a wicker basket to the corner nearest the windows (great light in the room). The living plant will take care of that "something missing" feeling you have. Nice room!
I like that iron one, especially knowing you have that iron piece on the wall! The good thing about daughter babysitting is you can do all of this without an audience!

Hey....worth a shot to try switching the art and the metal piece while you are playing! No new nail holes....just to see if there is a remote idea that you will like it. I can see that iron piece working with the headboard and the art is a splash of color on that wall. patriciarhall.....I like it!

I'd prefer the art to be on the wall where the sculpture is and make sure the center of it is 60" above the floor. The sculpture says "chains" to me - once you visit, we may not let you leave!!!. If it doesn't bother you that way, then hang it vertically on the closet wall so it is opposite the open door. I'd remove the lamp to another room and install wall hanging swing arm lamps on either side of the bed, after painting that wall in the darker shade from the circles on the curtains If shade isn't seen from the street, I'd replace it with a fiber one in the same darker color so you're adding a cozy factor to the space. Add a second bedside table - doesn't have to match except in height.

Ok lots more ideas since I did this...

    It looks very nice now!

I am using what I have without buying new furniture pieces.. I prob will get another side table in the future.. And I just had the whole house painted a few months ago...the HOA goes line the front windows to be the same hence I left the blinds.. Maybe add sheers to add the layered feel? The " chain" art piece was just a quirky piece I liked... A flat screen was going there just was hoping to have one room with no TV...

    Thanks archlvn :)

LOVE the lamp, but not the red sticks. Can you TRY the other color that is on the deck....switch just the sticks? They may need some newspaper on the bottom to be taller, but just wondering what a different color would do....
Did you switch lamps or did something change on my monitor?
Abbyjean I grabbed a shade from another lamp to see... I tried the to bring in the wood ones from outside they were dripping mud becuz we actually had rain for the first time in 100 days... I was trying to clean them with Clorox wipes
  • 13 years ago
My daughter kept texting about school shipping so I was frustrated and put them back outside until I can clean them and try.. Do you like the rest? Lampshade?

I like the lamp shade. Red or bright orange is too bright for the room. Unless you want to add more of it somewhere. Then you will change the mood of the room.

LOVE the new shade! Just what was needed to tone down what the white was doing. Will the white one work with the lamp you switched it with? HOPE SO! 100 days and you got rain! WOWZER! Do not worry about those sticks. If we wait for tomorrow, we get to talk again!!!
I was thinking a bit of color from the picture above would just brighten the neutrals for a bit of fun in there
  • 13 years ago
Nope abbyjean the white one dies not work so that lamp is bare.. Got to go get a new shade..

Yes, Cheryl, I agree, the warm tone that I mentioned earlier. Maybe the orange tone of the art is what you may like to add to the room.
Tomrrow is school shopping day so if my daughter allows :) maybe I can stop and get a shade for the bare lamp... It will prob be a long day.... She has multiple stores in mind... Oh boy I may not have enough left to get a damn shade:)

Buy the shade first! And she misses out on a t shirt! :) I also liked the bed without the throw at the bottom......too much with the top part thrown back, too, but that might be just me. Leave the pillow there and see how you like it in the morning.
LB interiors that's the pillow I added on the bed.. If it shows it matched the circle in the pic exactly.. Going to change the red sticks soon
  • 13 years ago
Yes abbyjean your right I will get the shade first!!! Then she is captive to get to her stores after... That's exactly what I'm going to do... You know I like layers so the blanket at the bottom was that coziness... maybe not:(
  • 13 years ago
When I get the red sticks out I think the orange pillow will b good .. We shall see I'm going g to start cleaning the other ones :(((

Wow, thanks Cheryl but the painting color looks so muted compared to the pillow. The painting appears to be soft coralish. It might be that the window has so much light coming into the room. Or my monitor.

    I like the blanket.
Yes it is just a very small circle of that color, hard to see I think in the picture.. Ok sticks are changed

Cheryl, if you can't see it, then it's probably not a color to choose to accent with. I was talking about the color in the upper left irrregular shape, It's a large amount not the skinny circle band. Does that make sense?
    last modified: 13 years ago
What do YOU think? I rather like it!!! OK for the cozy part with the blanket at the bottom of the bed.....but could it be draped differently so there is not a stripe at the top AND the bottom with the stripes already on the actual quilt? DARN....there I go being anal again!
I get it I never usually put blankets straight either I was trying to be less anal... I may just get rid of it anyway, as when hubby sleeps there I will b fixing it every day...
LBinteriors yes I see what you mean the bigger circle.. It is a much more muted color.. I don't even know what color to call it.. May have to just keep looking for that color

Cheryl, I have to tell you, did a real good job! You have good design sense and all you needed was a few tweaks. Not much was needed here, to warrant such a long thread.
    Congrats to you!

I kinda liked the orange though?? Now I am rethinking.. Oh boy

I don't know what color to call it. I wanted to call it something and was a loss for a description!
Thank You LB Interiors I appreciate all the help :)

I took a pic of it to have with me since it is such a different color

If you go with the strong orange, it takes away a bit of the serenity and subtlety that I felt for the room. It is definately a bolder statement and just as nice. Changes the mood a bit that's all.

You're welcome again! Whatever way you go, it is a beautiful room.

Design begins with a 'feeling' that you want for a room. All the choices are added to create that feeling. There are many design choices that can be dreamt of. They all use color, texture, style, needs, comfort and budget that are considered in designing a room to create the vision of the 'feeling' that the client is trying to achieve.
