I would recommend Romulo over fiberglass as a better sound insulator.

We used Rockwool Safe and Sound in our basement ceiling and I think it really helps (although I can’t really compare to what it would be like without it).

You need to tell us how noisy the upper space will be, how open is the kitchen to quiet living spaces, and what the ceiling penetrations will be.

im not sure exactly how noisy. right now its carpet so its now bad but we will be changing that eventually. above it is a bathroom and bedroom so its not used all the time. Its a very open floor plan so all the rooms carry into each other in the downstairs. Im not sure what ceiling penetrations are? (sorry for my ignorance!). Thanksin advance for any advice!

Makes sense! yes there are recessed lights. no speakers or any other ceiling penetrations.

Resilient channels are amazingly effective in reducing sound transfer between floors but recessed lights might create sound leaks. Using Air-Sealed recessed housings (gaskets at ceiling) will help and, of course, they should also be rated for Insulation Contact (IC) if you add insulation. The IC housings are often more sound resistant too. Some of the new LED fixtures don't have housings so make sure they close the opening well.

The insulation helps a little with direct transfer but a lot with sound from cracks above bouncing around horizontally and escaping through cracks below.
