Don’t like kitchen layout. Can this be made more open?

Considering purchasing this home but don’t like the kitchen layout. It’s too small and would prefer not to have sink at an angle. The current eating area could be incorporated into the kitchen. Cost needs to be considered. Love an island or peninsula workspace. Not the current elevated counter. Anyone see any possibilities?
