Everything looks great to me, except the chairs do seem overly large, especially the ones in front of the bar. It's hard to get past them.

Could you use swiveling barrel-shaped chairs instead for the two in front of the bar? They'd be lower in the back and take up less space. Guests could turn and face each other if they want.

So keep the 2 by the window and go with 2 different style swivel chairs by the bar? I need to see a pic of that to envision what that might look like. But I'm open to the idea! Something like this chair?

Doesn't the designer own a tape measure? Maybe this will work without the rectangular table.

We're actually planning to do the same thing with our dining room! I was thinking of doing a chesterfield, large ottoman and two accent chairs.

I think if you start by replacing the two chairs on the bar side with something smaller and maybe change the gold middle table to a round ottoman or wood table to give a bit more space.

Ha! She does and we did tape everything out but because the chairs are tapered (wider at the top), it was difficult to tape them out and envision their scale in the room. The issue is really the one chair that's right next to the bar. There is just a very small walkway. I suppose we could lose the table against the wall and rearrange more like your picture but that table really anchors the wall well and provides a spot for the lamps.

That console location might have been a better location for the dry bar.

Well too late now! Bar is installed and almost open for business! Which I will need after all of this!

The chairs are taking up more visual space because of the dark color. They are nice chairs, though, and do look really comfortable. Mixing up the pillows a bit could change the dynamic; maybe a couple of these, since it's a fun space.

Another option would be to go dark on the pillows, tone on tone, or bring in charcoal in the pillows, similar to (what looks like) wall color - sort of let the chairs fade into the walls.

The matching/uniform light colored lumbars, on all 4 chairs is not working. And I think that might be the biggest problem, actually.

Paper never lies. You use the largest dimension of the chair, as that ends up being both path and visual. Frankly it looks fine, if a bit snug. I doubt she wants them back. In my humble opinion? I'd have made the bar no deeper than an 18 inch lower cabinet.....and white would have been my last choice. Could have been great in a satin version of your wall color, actually. Sexier and more sophisticated as well. jmho less a "kitchen " effect.

Pour the wine and relax. Tighten them up a bit, all can reach the cocktail table. If not? Change that to 30 " round style`. Is that a faux tree in the corner : )........................

Deco - Yes the chairs do swivel! And yes, we can just move the pictures down to be centered over the console! And no, we couldn't put the bar under the stairs unfortunately - it just couldn't be done. Thank you for the meaningful input!

It is nice that you are almost finished and will soon be enjoying your room. Your chairs look very cozy for an evening in with friends. I agree that a round shaped coffee table would look great and maybe allow for a tighter grouping to give you a little extra space by the bar. I would also try taking away your black console. You could possibly just add another row of photos under your current grouping to fill that wall. I know that it is nice to have the table lamps, but maybe some floor lamps would work better. I could envision one of those inexpensive paper floor lamps in the corner, where you currently have your plant, casting a pretty glow in that corner. Some pattern and texture on cushions would be nice too to blend the colour scheme all together.

If you want 4 comfortable chairs in this room that feel ample, there's not much space you will gain from switching the chairs. Like everyone else is suggesting, your only option is to remove the slim console on the side. You can add a floor lamp and if possible, a light on the ceiling for extra lighting. You could also consider a slim wall shelf under your wall art which would serve the purpose but clears up a bit of ground space.

Another option is to get smaller nested tables as coffee tables. An interesting rug with some pattern would make this room pop. I could show you some options in this mock up if you'd like.
