I considered that but I really am not into the gray interiors of Ikea, nor the bars that are in their drawer boxes.

The custom ready to assemble cabinets I'm used to are all plywood construction with wood veneer inside. There drawer boxes are all wood. I got prices similar to Ikea but the quality was better. From a brief internet search I see Barker cabinets looks to have similar construction. I'm not sure if the cost or quality though. Does anyone have experience using something like that?

Scherrs. No comparison to IKEA at all. It’s full custom RTA. Barker would be second. Way less options though.

Ikea has white interiors, and drawers sides are different from what you describe. All-plywood is overkill.

I love the white interiors of Ikea easy to keep clean and the drawer slides are some of the best featurs of Ikea drawers had Ikea in my last 2 houses the old one is 17 yrs old still looks like new and this one 12 yrs old . I have been designingIkea kitchens for 20+ yrs and IMO best deal for the money and kind of fun to put together once you get the knack. Also the warranty is awesome. I never seem to have issues fitting Ikea into spaces so that they look custom it just takes time to get the design right BTW Sherrs is built with the same materials as Ikea for the boxes and the upgrade is the standard Ikea has always used for drawer slides so not sure how they are so much better than Ikea.

Thanks for the continued info. As far as affordable goes, I ended up paying a price that was similar to Ikea for fully customized ready to assemble cabinets from the Cabinet Authority in 2012. I'd like to do something similar but frameless.

As far as the bar that I mentioned, it had nothing to do with the drawer slides. I meant the bar that is above and parallel to the drawer box. I assume it helps to keep it stable and square. Wood dovetail boxes don't have this. I'm not trying to knock Ikea. They make good cabinets that last, but they just aren't my taste.

Custom frameless and RTA isn’t exactly an American phenomena. Scherrs is as close as you can get. Or choose an already assembled factory made brand like Kitchencraft for a more budget choice. Plato, Omega, Showplace, Medallion and many others have introduced their frameless options for the semi custom world. Omega Full Access is a good value for that quality level. It isn’t much more than Conestoga, and comes assembled.

Quality frameless is also usually available locally, with custom makers who do commercial cabinetry jobs. It won’t be RTA.

Cheap RTA imports have no place in the discussion of quality, so hopefully those won’t get suggested. They aren’t quality materials.

Shiloh Eclipse with a TFL finish (thermally fused laminate) on a slab door has amazing price point. Is fully assembled. You can do finished ends (as opposed to apply loose doors/gables). Interiors are white, maple or a textured linen finish. Custom sizes available. I just did a dentist office with super shallow drawers for their dental tools. Standard construction is fine but they do offer plywood....which I don't recommend. Throwing money away.

• Our cabinets are fully custom RTA - meaning the customer chooses the material. We have many to choose from. Often times if a customer is getting their cabinet boxes through IKEA and fronts with us but they need a custom sized cabinet to match their IKEA cabinet boxes then we will design those custom pieces to match, ergo they will have the same material. The lowest-cost material option we offer in our cabinet boxes is the same (or very similar) to IKEA's--and 3/4" melamine particle board isn't bad for that purpose. IKEA makes good cabinets!

I think comparing us to a giant company, like IKEA, is comparing apples to oranges. We serve different aspects of the cabinetry market. IKEA has a great product that's easy to design with, it's ubiquitous, it's readily available, it's modular, and it's good quality. We have similar construction style to our core cabinet box (because it's good design and we've been doing it for a very long time!), but we serve a different corner of the market. Because we're fully custom and RTA - we have strong sales with folks looking for high quality custom cabinetry who plan on shipping the product in no matter where they get their cabinetry from. We also have a niche market in providing higher quality doors to be used on IKEA cabinets. I think this is where people can compare us. Our doors are made using traditional joinery, high quality materials, high quality finish, and we've got a team of salespeople who really try their hardest to make people really happy.

We love seeing all the discussions on Houzz. There are some real gems to be found in these comments!

I know this is a relatively old string, but Conestoga now offers frameless cabinets, and they are a hot commodity right now :)
