The entrance will look dark and gloomy if the door is painted gray. If you want it to pop, choose a lighter, brighter color.

I light turquoise or bright cobalt would work better in a receded entrance. However, if you want to go darker and add shutters, then do black for both to echo your roof. A much more beautiful way to go is to extend your garden beds in an interesting way as below.

If you want pop, you are going to have to pick a rich, bright color. The color is going to have to be strong enough to fight through the shade from the porch. The grey and white doors in these photos are nice but don't pop away from the beige stone.

I'd like to see you extend your planting beds from the front door area and add more landscape around your front walk.

A beefed up trim around the windows would be a better choice than shutters in this case. Shutters would be quite large to be sized right for your windows (each shutter should be half the window's width). I agree the receded door needs bight and light to have more presence. Even white would be nice with your brick.

I even thought of replacing the front door with a glass/wood double door.

Most of the shutters I see around our area are sized incorrectly, and/or the home just isn't the right style for them. We see lots of "shudders!" This link has been shared many times here on Houzz and might be helpful.

Gray is a non-popping color. Actually, gray is a non-color. If it were mine, I would paint the front door white to match your trim. And beef up the window trim like someone said, making it white too.

Is there a pendant light over the front door? It’s not very prominent.

Warm, inviting and classy .. I really like that! I thought of wall lanterns too but I didn't know if they could connect electricity without it being a huge production. I even thought of finding some type of faux or solar lanterns for the bare columns. The light in the porch is recessed

I know that the light color for the door is what Im supposed to like ..but I do like that black and I could lighten it up with greenery around the door and a wreath.

Not black but dark charcoal gray

Our front door is onyx black and under a covered porch. I was worried it would look dark and not "pop" but I really love it. The colours Beverly posted above are lovely.
