Best companies for couches

I'm going to be buying two identical couches- transitional style, not mid-century modern and wonder what companies/couches you recommend.. I currently have Henredon fabric covered couches from the 80's- still in great shape but I'm moving away from the traditional look. I'm not sure if I'll go with leather or fabric. Any recommendations on companies that make a quality product are appreciated. I'm looking at some of these brands: Palisar, Younger and Co., EQ3, American Leather, Smith Bros., Hancock and Moore. Thanks in advance for your good advice!

Hancock and Moore quality can not be beat. Especially if leather. If fabric, I'd strongly recommend Hickory Chair as well as Century. Also Taylor King, in either fabric or leather. You will find transitonal styling in any of them. Also the ability to customize........especially in Hickory chair, and right down to the inch. All will give you eight way hand tied construction, fill options on cushioning etc.

I think we need to know what your budget is too.I like Italian or German made leather sofas .

Tessa(and anyone else) here are the photos. I think the couches look too dated with the new coffee table and credenza. Obviously the valances and gold frames will have to go too. I'd like seating for 8 since I entertain groups that size a lot.

The new credenza will look great flanked by draperies and with a piece of art no wider than 75% of its width hung 5" above it. Are you keeping the French armchairs? They look to be quite a contrast to your new tables. I think you're in for a treat when you find the right seating to pull a more eclectic transitional look together.

No I'm not keeping the French armchairs. Basically just the new table and credenza are staying. I'd like to get draperies that aren't too heavy looking. Any suggestions?

You may want to take a look at Maiden Home. Nice quality product made in North Carolina at a good price. Limited styles, but if you find something you like, it is a great option. www.maidenhome.com - I actually like the french chairs, but they'd have to be redone.

Ann Conroy - Wondering what you ended up buying. Also, I love the marble-topped coffee table! Can you give me the brand? I'm trying to buy furniture for the entire house, during a pandemic. Which so far hasn't worked out so well! :)

@Tammy would love to know how you are liking the Elmo Soft leather. It seems really soft in the store, but I'm worried about durability given the softness. Have you needed to clean it yet?

Leather can be very supple, and still "protected" . Every manufacturer should be able to provide that info on the back of the leather swatch.

The enemies of leather are full sun, and body oils, especially on UN protected leather. A good example is a recliner and hubby's balding head. You can wind up with a stain the size of a dinner plate.

As to the Elmo,........see below. All leather is pretty durable, Protection is different. Ask the store for more information regarding your selection. The "public environment" suggests a commercial application, you may be just fine with the selection.

    Below:

"Elmosoft (S-Grade) is a soft and pliable Semi-Aniline leather imported from Scandinavia. Outstanding comfort combined with excellent durability and an extensive color selection, makes it very suitable for the public environment. Natural characteristics add to the elegant character of the leather. This leather is made without chrome tanning agents and can be recycled."

Thank you Jan! I do have a husband with a bald head so this is something we definitely are concerned about. My other option is aniline dyed "medium protection" (American Leather company) or semi-aniline heavy protection. We are really struggling with choosing which will last the longest and be relatively easy to clean. We are very nervous to purchase something with a protective coating that is just going to peel in a few years but also don't want to purchase something so precious we hesitate to sit in it.

PEEL??? A protected leather doesn't "peel" . I have never had a client who had to clean a leather sofa or chair of any sort. Have there been "bald head issues" Yes, but that is client fail, nothing gets it out. Heads perspire, and they especially perspire when rested on leather. In Victorian times? There was a little cloth well known as an ......................

You can find them on Etsy with non slip backing. Make him use it and hide it when not in use. Dimensions are usually about 30 x 14. Or....have several made by a local upholsterer, and back them with very thin rug pad material to your desired dimension with a Sunbrella fabric. Clean and washed hands when you sit?Y eah....a good idea. You needn't be OCD. The same rules apply to fabric. The only disadvantage to leather? No flip to the cushions. Leather is a ONE side application to upholstery.
