How to make bathroom look more modern

Hi everyone!
We're purchasing our first home and we love everything about the interior except the cultured marble in the master bathroom.
I'm estimating that we won't be able to remodel it for at least a year.
What can I do to this space as far as decor to make it feel more modern? I've never had a good eye for interior design. Lol. Thanks in advance!

Get some art up, lots of fluffy towels, teak accessories to help warm it up.

You could paint the walls white, use some fluffy towels and some artwork.

Lots of companies make fixtures compatible with older valves. I would look into changing all the fixtures (tub, shower, vanity) and a frameless shower door. Changing out baseboards and window sill/framing to something more modern (e.g 1x4 or whatever). Changing the door and doorknob will help as well.

If you wanted to get more extensive, replacing cabinet doors with shaker or flat front and modern hardware and countertop material (80/sq ft so on a vanity not much $). All these types of changes are incremental and most can be done yourself without too much effort.

    Toilet is a standalone change.

Some of these changes can be pulled and reused when you remodel.

The main thing you get with a remodel

    1) pull and get a modern tub

    2) new floor

    3) completely new shower

    4) new cabinets

    5) new layout

But a lot of what makes modern is the surface stuff and your shower marble isnt terrible..

Do you plan to spend the $25,000 or so in a year to redo the bathroom? If so, I personally wouldn't do anything except get some new towels and a bath rug or mat.

Thanks to all for the advice!

And no, I most definitely won't have $25,000 to redo. 😳 I wasn't aware it would be that expensive!

I think I'm in freakout mode because after googling I discovered how much people hate cultured marble. Myself and hubby have never had it in our lives so we didn't think much of it at first. Now I'm concerned people will walk in and be like, grossed out.

The fact that y'all are saying it's not that bad makes me feel better.

What do y'all think of this: So of course the tub, shower, and counter are this grey-green marble color. Should I paint the bathroom white, add teak accessories, and get blush pink towels and mat? And then in a year or so get gold faucets? Or am I totally off here 🤣

At least your cultured marble is better than the stuff we had in our 70s bathroom--it was pink! And surrounded by shag carpet. So count your blessings. Instead of painting the walls white, you might consider going with a darker gray in the tone of the "marble"--it might make it disappear a bit and seem more modern and a bit more realistic. I think against white you'll have a lot of contrast. Then, as others said, add fluffy white towels. Teak accessories are a great idea and don't forget lots of plants! Your shower and tub handles are also super dated (oh, yes, we have some of those too!). The faucets themselves aren't that bad; could you replace just the handles and stay with chrome? If you do replace them altogether, consider black rather than gold. The gold will again contrast with the gray and draw more attention to the faux marble.

It's your master bathroom--who is going to walk in and be grossed out? Are you already thinking about resale? If not, stop worrying about the opinions of random people on the internet. If YOU don't like it, save up and wait to redo (in the meantime, you can change easy things already mentioned, like paint and towels). If you don't mind it, that's fine. The gray is unobtrusive, and there is a lot to be said about not having any grout to clean.

Gray and pink often go well together, but gold seems very unlikely to work. You might get more ideas on colors if you post more/better photos.
