I inherited one with the new house. It was planted between posts about 12ft apart, anyway it appears to be have never been touched or pruned. It produced last summer, can't really say how well, just had a few clusters of grapes on it. After some research, I decided to drastically prune it, I pruned it back to the two strongest trunks/cordons. Very few if any spurs around the crown, most were at the very end and the long vines were in a tangled mess. All the new wood was at the end of 3-4ft old wood, like I said, hadn't been touch in years or if ever.

I know I shouldn't expect any grapes this next growing season, but should I have hope it bounces back? One thing about the cordons I left, the ends of them are drooping straight down since they were never trained, and they are too thick to train now onto the wire. Should I just chop off the ends? This will leave me with a trunk with two cordons with 5ft of the cordons trained on each side of the crown. I am assuming I can choose a new growth vine this upcoming season end to train on the wire to extend each cordon. Also, were I have no spurs in or near the crown...should I expect some vines to start here that I can trim to fruiting spurs next dormant season?
