My understanding is most people prefer 2nd floor laundry. To put on main floor, we'd have to pretty much lose all of our main floor closet space or fully renovate kitchen and hide it in a cabinet somewhere. Keep in mind, you'd still have to do extra trips with getting the dirty laundry from upstairs, bring it downstairs, then bring it back usptairs when it is clean.

One trip down one trip up I love my main floor laundry and It is in just an oversized closet. BTW Mmost of my clients have changed their minds after seeing me do laundry one day.

Either you're hauling your butt upstairs to flip, or you're hauling your clothes downstairs and upstairs to wash and dry.

I've lived in homes with 1st floor and 2nd floor Laundry Rooms. There's a good argument for locating the Laundry Room close to where dirty laundry accumulates--which is typically the bedrooms. However, you need to consider when/how you do the laundry. If you multi-task making dinner and doing the laundry, then plan on going up and down the stairs a number of times if the Laundry is on the second floor. That's more logistics than my brain or body cares to handle at the end of a day.

Also consider the implications of a failure in a washing machine hose or other watery mishap in a 2nd floor Laundry Room versus a 1st floor Laundry Room. How and when you do your laundry should decide where you put the washer and dryer. I had them upstairs for years in a closet outside the main bath and found it convenient. Never any danger of overflow or flooding as the flooring under the machines was lowered and a drain pipe installed.

If you decide to put it upstairs in the second bath, consider eliminating the bathtub, make your shower a little bigger and used the saved space for your laundry.
