How do I now get to the main page which lists all forums?

GW jacked up again -- I can't find the main page that lists out all forums, the only way I could get here this morning was to do a search for perennials, click on the post, and click the oval at the top to bring it to the home page of the perennials forum. Way too much work find other forums this way. AAAARGH! Can anyone offer any help? I'm on a browser, BTW - never access via mobile device.

Ken's link is still working for me. That's the view I've always had, and I like it that way -- separated into garden vs. non-garden forums, in alphabetical order, not a hodgepodge, but not sure we're actually talking about the same view. The problem for me now is I can't easily get back to that view to quickly find another forum when I'm done in the forum I'm in.

    Houz-z-z-z-z-z...

I honestly don't know why Houzz keeps these forums running...they use them to hock their wares but make no effort to provide a welcoming or easy experience for its members. I can see why the active postings have dropped off these past few years as people head to other sites.

^^ Where did everybody go? (what I'm asking is what other gardening chat boards are out there, I'm clueless)

That is what I did, "follow".

I am on a very local Facebook page, and it is nice, but it is hard to find anything. I view it more as an accessory to GW, at least for now.

Most of the Gardenweb forums have easily remembered URLs. The basic is www.Gardenweb.com/discussions/,

then you add the specific forum. Perennials is peren, Shrubs is shrubs, Trees is trees, Conifers is conif, New England is neweng, Roses is roses.

I'm not into F_B. I enjoy having the way forums allow for an exchange, a "conversation" if you will. Hopefully the smoke from this latest screw-up will blow over and folks will be back soon. Especially as the warmer weather starts to blow in and gardening starts returning to the forefront of people's minds. Let's hope...

Problem has still not been corrected.

Uncorrected for me as well. I'm finding forums through googling. I don't think Houzz is going to fix it this time.

I just tried a work-around. On the left side of my screen, there is a list of the topics I "follow". It is labeled "Your Topics" in green. Beside that is a square that says "edit". I clicked on edit and a drop down screen came up with all the topics listed.

Once you've got onto a Forum you're interested in click the Follow box, top right. That forum will then be added to the Your Topics list down the left hand side and will always be there.

Floral, I think the problem is that they can't find the forum to follow. There are some also, that I don't want to see all the time, but do like to check every once in a while.

I want the entire page. I never know what might interest me and I don't want to box myself into favorites. I asked them to fix it, but nothing so far.

Rob, did you not try what I posted yesterday? You would only have to follow one forum for it to work. That works if you are in Garden Web.

    last modified: 6 years ago

    If you don't want to do that, bookmark this;

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/explore-topics

The difference is that it says Houzz in the address bar instead of Garden Web.

I don't feel 'boxed in' Rob. I have 33 favourite forums down the left hand side of my page. From years on GW I know which ones will never interest me. Machinery and Lawns for instance. And anyway, once in a forum one can get to most other forums by hopping from one to another. Consequently I've had none of the trouble people are experiencing getting into forums I want to see.

Rob, if you are wanting to just scroll everything that is posted, just log out. All topics will be listed with the newest comments posted first. If you find something you want to comment on, log back in.

I do the same thing floral does :-) My list of preferred forums is slightly longer - 41 - but they are the ones that interest me the most. A lot of the gardening forums are far too specific - all the other regional forums or things like aquariums, irrigation or mowers/tractors, etc. - and have no appeal.

And because I visit here on a daily basis, I seldom venture into the actual forums themselves as any recent comments made to any of my listed forums will show up under the recent discussions. And the compulsion to cross post everything expands my selection even further!

Rob, another work around that would accomplish you being able to see every post that has a comment, is to just click on the link for forums and follow every single forum. You would then see every post and comment made. You would not be missing anything.

Although, I myself, would not follow"Hot Topics". I can't stand that one, LOL.

ETA: I am following 112. The majority gardening, with one or two such as "Smaller Homes".

No thanks. Why can't they just give us the page? Was it that hard to maintain? Did it keep them from getting something they're after? All it's done is frustrate people.

Doesn't bother me at all. I really don't understand what page you want.

I guess I don't understand the seeming aversion to what are pretty efficient work-arounds :-) A lot of changes have been made since the Houzz acquisition and by and large, most have been easy to adapt to. I don't see this any differently. If you want to access the forums easily, suggestions above will allow you to do so. It may require a little more effort but it works.

Obviously ;) It bothered others enough to post about. Let's just leave it at that. It's not about change, that's not a biggie, but it was highly convenient to have.

And the point being made is the list is still there!! Perhaps not as readily or conveniently accessed as before but there if you want or need it.

The first one is very easy to use. It is in GW. It is at the top right instead of the bottom right.

I'm not clear what 'page' you are referring to either, rob333. I'm not seeing any difference in the way I access the forums. The site is bookmarked with an icon on my desktop as it always has been. One click and I'm in. My topics are then displayed as they always were.

I did find the one that is by your topics, when you click edit. You had to follow at least one topic in order to be on here, so it should be available.

Floral, as far as I can tell , Rob does not want to "follow" any forums for some reason. Following all forums seems to be dismissed also. Clicking on edit is not wanted. Neither is clicking on the Houzz link. I guess the only thing acceptable is the link from 2010, that does not exist.

I am not a fan of change either, but sometimes it is for the better. (Don't get me started on changing the sizes of food cans or packages, lol.) Yes, Houzz has had some hickups, but this is working fine, IF YOU TRY TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT!

    last modified: 6 years ago

It was a page they offered currently. It's not some leftover link.

Until quite recently. There shouldn't have to be a work around for the menu to a website.

It listed every single forum from Garden, to Home, to Nature and all it shows now is Australia: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/explore-topics

Yes, that was the old link, from 2010. It is now,

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/explore-topics

Same page. Same topics, except now you have access to all the topics on one page.

It is also available under "Edit" on my topics. Same page, just smaller.

It's not an old link? I have no idea why you're so set on that. It was current until 12 days ago.

    last modified: 6 years ago

Last comment, because you are not listening.

It is an old link, because it has existed since 2010 or a year or so after that. Yes, it was CHANGED a few days ago. Nothing stays the same. Our internet is different than it was 10 to 15 years ago. The TV channels are different. My computer is different.

Do you pay more than I for Garden Web/Houzz? I pay zero. If Houzz hadn't bought it. we may not have it at all.

I used to be on a forum with HGTV, It was very popular, called "Rate-My- Space". HGTV got rid of it. Gone. Nothing left of the forum. Things that were saved did not exist.

Yes, there have been problems and they have fixed them. Maybe they will bring it back for you, Before they combined both into the new link, I had to go to the Houzz link for some forums and the GW link for others. They are all on the new Houzz link now.

    Have a better day.

ETA: Yes, I did "follow" everything that I liked at all, so I don't have to find a forum. If I want to just read one forum, they are all listed to the side and all I have to do is click on it.

tigereye, That link doesn't include the Cooking forum, The Kitchen Table or Readers Paradise. Very odd.

They were there the other day. There were three different sections of topics and now there is only one. Maybe they are trying to move them back, since some were so upset.

They are still on the dropdown if you select edit.

    I found this:

Are all GardenWeb topics now on Houzz?

"The GardenWeb topics centered around home and garden are now available through Houzz. Topics that are not related to home and garden are still available on GardenWeb."

    https://help.houzz.com/s/article/Are-all-GardenWeb-topics-now-available-on-Houzz?language=en_US

It sounds like they are separating the "talk" forums, such as The Kitchen Table", "Home Decorating Conversations", "Hot Topics", and so on. I don't know why "Cooking" was not included.

If you go on the link and scroll to the bottom, there is a form to fill out for help.

    https://help.houzz.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_US

You can go on there and ask.

The easiest way to find one if it is not on the topic page is to "follow" it. If you click on the edit button on the topics you are following, cooking is there, at least for me.

I type Garden web in the search function, it gave a tag of Garden web in advice and i that brought up all the forums just now. It does seem to change from day to day. Very frustrating. But I do keep a bookmark of my favorite forms. I do agree that they are trying to kill us slowly. I just found Garden web under getting Ideas under the HOUZZ moniker.

A much easier and better way than a bookmark for each forum, is to Follow anything you might like. This is my only bookmark. I follow 103 different forums.

    https://www.gardenweb.com/

A lot of people don't like jumbling everything together, and prefer to read separate forums. There are forums with distinctly different personalities, and that gets lost if you are reading chronologically instead of by subject.

So while Following may be easier because that is the hole Houzz wants to pound us into, don't just assume we will all think it is better.

    last modified: 6 years ago

If you want to read the separate forums, all you have to do is click on your forums that you have followed. You could follow EVERY forum and you would not have to read them. It would not be ANY different than the page y'all say you want. They are in alphabetical order. For example I follow African violets, if I only want that forum, I click on it right after I click on GW. If I want smaller homes, I click on that.

You are just trying to make it complicated.

    last modified: 6 years ago

Actually, I DO think it is easier to use than when I first signed up for GW. For example: I have NO interest in the New Jersey Garden Exchange. With the page you want it is there, with my page, it is not. I am not bothered with it. If for some unknown reason, I wanted to look at it, I just go to the Houzz page, and there it is!

" A lot of people don't like jumbling everything together, and prefer to read separate forums. "

If you follow specific forums, there is no jumbling involved!! They are presented in alphabetical order - just like they have always been - and there is nothing at all to restrict you from reading one individual forum at a time if they are on your list......or ALL of them if your prefer free access :-)

I agree that most are making this far more complicated than it need be.

I have tried to help people find stuff. People have helped me before and I appreciated it. Now, It just seems lets bash Houzz. Houzz is bad Garden Web is good. If it can't be like it was 5, 10, 15 years ago, it is bad.

If Houzz hadn't of bought GW, you might not have it at all. What you are complaining about is not that much different than before. It is just a different way of looking at it.

I hope you have a better day and try to stretch your wings to learn new things and new ways of looking at them.

I don't like to bash, but the simple fact is ever since Houzz took over even basic things like finding the thread or forum you're looking for have become very complicated. When it was Gardenweb it wasn't like this. People tend to complain when things get more complicated then they need to be (and rightly so).

I imagine the median age of the members of garden web is not 25 or even 35. We mostly are of the age that are resentful against NEEDLESS change. Change for the hell of it and change to the worse chap my @ss, plain and simple. Change ifor the better , FINE,.or leave it be.

I managed to save my access to GardenWeb forums by following the advice of those on this thread, and choosing to “follow” my favorite forums. But, somewhere along the way the Native Plants forum got dumped completely. I can’t find it anywhere.
