I think the taupe looks beautiful with that back splash and the floors. Taupe is a great neutral so you have options for decorating colors in adjacent rooms, especially if you don't want white cabinets. I would stay away from gray which I think are already dated. Bring the cabinet sample home to your house to see it under your own lighting.

Love the taupe. Two tone kitchen cabinets are really on trend and increasing in popularity. So you might think about having a portion of the cabinets custom painted in a contrasting color...depending on the shade of taupe, navy might look lovely.

Agree with all the comments, and really like that backsplash. Curious what is the counter top and what is the backsplash?

Just a word of caution, dark floors will show everything And I mean everything. Biggest regret in my kitchen Reno.

I love your choices but I would also caution against such a dark floor~ and laminate does show footprints. My sister put a light toned high end laminate in her Reno and said it never stayed clean and she couldn’t get the footprints entirely off of it no matter what she tried cleaning it with. I would take the sample home and walk on it for a couple days before committing. A wire brushed medium toned manufactured hardwood would be my first choice for a kitchen floor.

The cabinets look good with the countertop. I'm not a huge fan of the backsplash and coutnertop together though. Two different stones together tend to fight each other. Wait on the backsplash until everything else is installed.

As for the floors there are two issues. One, it's pretty dark. That means it will show EVERYTHING. Doesn't mean don't go for it, just be prepared for lots of cleaning. Second, laminate isn't a good choice for kitchens. It doesn't hold up well to water.

I love the taupe we actually had taupe fridges, wine cooler and wall ovens in our house in Calgary i loved them. BTW we had dark floors and I ran a catering biz from that kitchen the floors were from Germany and laminate they still look good 17 yrs later.The appliances were darker taupe but I love your choices

I have had dark wood, almost ebony, in my house for over 20 years. I love them and they make everything look beautiful. It doesn’t feel like they require any more maintenance than when I had a lighter oak floors.

I like the choices but would wait on the backsplash. I feel it might be too much with the counters depending on the movement of the stone.

Definitely taupe.

I recommend light colors. Once for the fact that they are easier to maintain but also for the fact that they offer a bigger space visually.

Thank you everyone - great suggestions! Salonva- the granite (or marble per some people) is Fantasy Brown. Not sure what the backsplash is. Christi- I love the idea of Navy. We saw granite with some grey blues and were considering going with that. It had great movement and wasn’t too dark. For hardware I was considering bronze to bring I. The floor but the antiqued silver looked the best with the cabinet and floor together. The floor is already in place and it’s the one thing we are keeping. I’m calling it laminate but it’s higher quality, thick boards (not exactly what’s in the picture). I love it. So easy to maintain and so far very durable. Really appreciate the feedback!

Yes, the taupe is a lovely color, but contrary to what someone wrote, gray is not "dated." It all depends on how you use it.

That being said, the composition is very nice, but I'd suggest you use real hardwood on the floor instead of laminate. Why use stone (instead of laminate) on your counter tops but laminate (fake wood-look) on the floor? Real hardwood is durable and beautiful and can be refinished if necessary. Laminate is plastic, and sounds hollow when you walk on it. If it gets wet, it will warp and buckle. It can never be refinished. I had it once in my kitchen years ago, and I would NEVER do it again. I'd do sheet vinyl over laminate if costs were a factor.

I love the whole combination except the backsplash. Like others above, I think it may clash with the countertop. It will be worth it to wait until all of it is installed and THEN choose a backsplash. A simple tile would probably be best but until the kitchen is “there” it’s hard to know. Houzzers: her floor IS INSTALLED. let’s just work with what she has.

I love the cabinet, counter top and flooring.

The back splash feels pink to me in comparison to the other neutrals.

I just grabbed a small sample of the back splash and dropped it on the cabinet and counter and a small sample from the cabinet and dropped it on the counter and back splash.

Like the taupe as a nice neutral. Counter works well. Backsplash color is off and I would wait until everything else is installed before deciding as lighting will impact it. I had laminate in my kitchen for 15 years with no issues but I had to stay on top of any water. The new final flooring looks really good and is a good alternative. As for floor color dark or light as both have upkeep. You are on the right track so far, all the best

Jennifer is right. The b/s is off. The taupe cabinet and flooring are gorgeous together. Wait to do the backsplash when your lighting and everything else is installed. I have found that store lighting is the WORST place to choose
b/s tiles.

On looking at this dilemma again, I don't think the b/s is "off." I think it's too busy with the counter top, so I'd either go with the counter top and a plain b/s or the b/s tile with a plain counter top.

As for the colors, that can only be determined by looking at all the materials in YOUR room with YOUR lighting. Computer monitors do not render color accurately.

I agree on your room and lighting to check how the colors work. And if you're changing to leds be aware that those lights are available in 2700k, 3000k, 3500k and 'bluer' or Daylight color temps. I like 3000k, but check what your choices are. View during the day and in the evening. Take home all the different floor samples you can choose from.

All great points. I think my floor is actually vinyl. It’s sturdy and very nice. I love the floor. My old house had hard wood and I felt it was very time consuming to care for. Jennifer, very cool you could move a color from the cabinet onto the backsplash- point made! The taupe it’s self can pull pink with some colors but I feel confident I can work with colors that will work well with it. Really great input everyone! Thanks so much!

Mar77 It was at a cabinet store that I am actually not using (purchasing same cabinets elsewhere) and I don’t know the name. If I’m in the area I’ll stop in and find a name.
