Install own windows in 1970s home?

Hi there --

Our home was built in the 70s, with an add-on in the 80s. We were going to do a small renovation but are holding off right now with the coronavirus impacts.

I am looking for things I can do myself. One thought was the windows -- the last homeowner put in vinyl replacement windows (single-hung). We want to change them because we want more light to come through the frame, and, we want black interior & exterior.

We planned to buy Andersen 100 windows.

I'm interested in tips & stories of people who tried doing this themselves. I do some things involving wood, light electrical, and drywall around the house, but never considered this until now. Thanks!
