Super easy to grow here in northern California where they thrive in-ground all over the place. Once it is warm enough to move outside, I would skip the 1-gallon and pot it in a #3 container in a good well-draining mix.

It was grown from a seed. What are the chances it will actually bear fruit? How many years till it does fruit?

I would imagine loquat to take at least 5 to 10 years from seed -- maybe longer in a pot vs. in the ground. It will need to get quite large. They do not grow true from seed, so the fruit could be inferior. Really good varieties are grafted.
