did you buy irish luck.. and if not.. how would you expect a named variety to pop up in the garden... ergo... i would think toward some old workhorse name ... even a rogue seedling off the one on the left. since the flower structure is similar ... though i doubt you wouldnt have notice a rogue seedling for the 3 or 5 years it took to grow to that size ...

did you ever collect the really old plants from friends???

Hi Ken, the flower you are saying looks the same (the one next to it) is actually from that noid hosta. I did not buy an Irish Luck that I recollect, but on the other hand, I never purchased an Allen P. McConnell, but it is in my garden. Never really collected hostas with friends...but I did used to buy hostas from a guy that would set up in a grocery store parking lot quite a long time ago. They never had names, or if so, I was at the very beginning of buying hostas for my shady yard and didn't see the point in keeping the names Hahaha, what folly! It's a nice hosta, not just blah.... maybe I should make my own name for it then? How about Debra's Folly??? The name is not taken. :-D

Love the name, but don't think its Irish Luck. IL has more upright, wide leaves that are very glossy. Hard to see if yours are that glossy. It's hard to mistake for anything else. Your flowers look large. Are they fragrant? Although, now that I look at it again, perhaps it just needs another year to mature. Yes, I know. I'm a lot of help - at least my wife tells me that I am.

How about Invincible? I lost mine and can't find where I put my "dead hosta" file to compare with your noid. Invincible has been around a long time (bred by Kevin Vaughn). Irish Luck is a seedling of Invincible.

I believe the glossy leaves of both plants are less glossy some times than others, but can't find my photo files to check it. Sorry.

I did buy several Invincible..I do know where some are planted but I don't have a pic of that area..I think? these could be Invincible..I never bought an Irish Luck..if this bloomed I don't remember the blooms..probably just lavender..

djacobz..my Invincibles were quart size..I use small plants near trees..they're shiny with wavy edges so Invincible seems right..any other opinions?..

I think this is Hosta Sweetness. I found it labeled as So Sweet at Lowes last summer, but it was all green. It does not have the stature (height) of Royal Standard! with my foot as perspectiv.e. Thoughts, Hostaphile Brain Trust?

Utog, you may have Sweetness, which is a So Sweet sport. One way to help tell is by waiting for the bloom which is fragrant. It also looks like Sweetness has some purple coloring near the bottom of the flower brach, not sure, but looks that way from database photo. But, you could also have a young Royal Standard. It isn’t old enough to be upright and it also has a fragrant flower! So good luck, only time will tell!

Well, I now know that my possible “Invincible” is NOT. The flowers are not fragrant no matter I hard I inhale!! Sigh!

Well, Lois you may be right........ seems very similar to “Undulata Erromena.”

Anyone else like to chime in here? How did it get the second part of its name——Errormena, sounds like a boo-boo to me! :-D
